Second Date Ideas

I took this girl out last weekend and we had a great time. Went to the Greek Festival. Went to Starbucks and had a nice conversation. And then we went to a movie. It was a great date. We're going out again this Saturday and I'm looking for a good date idea.

This is what I have so far. I'll probably take her out to dinner. But I want to do something fun after that. I've run across things like: putt-putt golf and bowling. But that doesn't seem like it would be that fun to me. I want to find something really fun that she and I would both enjoy and would give us some quality time together. Thanks for the help y'all.

BTW, I'm 17 and she just turned 16 if that helps.

Sarcasm aside, putt-putt golf will be fun. I did that as one of my first few dates with my ex...we had a blast. Plus you can pull the "let me help you out" while moving behind her and getting touchy-feely. Haha still remember going to hide in the back seats of the restaraunt after where we made out. haha

I kinda miss highschool, ok not really. But really, she really isn't going to care too much where you go as long as she's with you. She clearly likes you.

Haha. I actually wouldn't mind the cycling. I'd love to see her in spandex haha. But thanks bro. I guess putt-putt is a good idea.

Funny you mention the kissing part. That's the one thing I've been thinking about. I mean, is it okay to kiss her by the second date? Should I wait until the third? I'm going to embarass myself here, but I've never kissed a girl. I have no idea what I'm doing in that department. How do I tell when the time is right and whether or not she's ready for me to kiss her?

Like AV said don't dismiss putt putt golf or bowling, they both wicked fun, and it doesn't matter what you do, as long as she's with you i don't think she could care less. Another one could be late night go-karting if you have it where you live? But i guess that isn't really an intimate exercise, but it sure as hell is fun!

ah f-ck, I just saw how young you are. Well I guess my advice in my other thread might be a bit old for you.

I agree though it's good to do something a bit different. Could you take her to a concert?

Haha, no worries bro. About the concert, that's a great idea. This band that she likes (I kinda like them too) is coming to town next weekend. Cute Is What We Aim For is coming to town. I'm thinking about getting us some tickets to that.

I think the concert is a great idea. Seeing as it's her fave band, it shows that you are taking her interests into consideration.

I think putt putt golf is a smashing idea (i suggested miniature golf as a great early date in your first thread). The teasing and very mild competition is perfect to get you two more comfortable together.

As for the kissing, if you are close, looking into each other's eyes and she stops talking, move in! :D Expect it to be slightly awkward and you won't be disappointed.

Have fun. I won't say "good luck" because with the spectacular way you are handling yourself, you don't need luck.

I don't know how much $$$ you have to throw around, but you might consider seeing what the local high schools and community theaters are offering. Also, my boy is your age. He just took his girlfriend to Hard Rock Cafe for dinner, and she thought it was the best date ever. I think the food is only mediocre, but the desserts are good, and the one near us is up at Universal Citywalk, which is an event all by itself.

I live in Houston, TX on the west side of town. I was thinking of taking her to this nice little Thai place. She likes Thai food and I know the owner. But the Hard Rock Cafe sounds good too. There is one Downtown. Hmm, decisions, decisions.

I can't find a nearby place to go for putt putt! The only place is like 25 minutes away. I don't know if that's too far or what. I mean, I know that we enjoy hanging out with each other. I mean, last night we talked on the phone for 2 hours. She said she was tired about an hour and half in and I said, well, I guess I'll let you go. And she was like, NO, we don't have to stop. That made me feel kinda good lol.

But is that too far to go? What else could I possibly do tonight? Thanks y'all.

Guilty as charged, I guess :D I mean our first date cost a total of $47. That include food, drinks, coffee, and 2 movie tickets.

The dinner tonight will probably cost about $40. I need to go get my truck washed, $10 haha.

I spent way too much on my ex...our 1 year cost about $200+, including gifts and dinner. I bought her a ring she wanted but couldn't find anywhere, I found it! Bought her this perfume she was constantly talking about buying. Then took her out to disneyland to the Blue Bayou, which isn't cheap.

But, god damn that was a nice evening.

Well, I'm about to go pick her up in 10 minutes. It started raining here. So putt putt is out. And my freshly washed and waxed truck...gone. We're going to get Thai food and maybe come back to my house and watch a movie.

As for washing my truck, I usually do. I have DuPont Teflon truck wash. A box full of stuff from Adam's Polishes and a boatload of microfiber towels. But, I had to finish a project for school. Go see a friend of mine before she leaves for Utah (haven't seen in her 9 months). Then I had to come home to go with her. I just didn't have time today bro. But I'm going to save the putt putt for a later time. At first I thought it was kind of a dumb idea, but it's growing on me and I know I could make it fun. Thanks bro.

Yeah, I can understand initially thinking putt putt is dumb, but just remember, any activity where you have to interact and cooperate (greek festival, putt putt, go-kart, laser tag, dancing, fondue dinner, etc.) rather than just watch (movies, concerts, etc.) has a much greater bonding potential. Also, shared safe activities that get the adrenaline pumping (roller coasters, rock climbing, balloon rides, haunted houses, etc.) have an enormous bonding effect.

Update for y'all: I picked her up last night at about 9:30 and the Thai place was already closed. So we went to this Spanish restaurant around the corner. She enjoyed it. After that I gave her the option of going to the theater and watching a movie or coming back to my place to watch a movie and have some hot cocoa. She decided to come to my house. I have quite a DVD collection so she picked out Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It's one of her favorite movies and I like a lot as well. We curled up on the couch together and she used my chest as a pillow and I had both of my arms around her. She had a really long day and fell asleep about halfway through the movie and just laid there asleep in my arms. So after the movie she was still out so I started to nod off also. Then she woke up a little later and I still had my arms around her and we talked and joked and laughed with her just laying in my arms. We talked like that for about 30 minutes and then I took her home. We got to the door and I gave her a kiss on the cheek. She kissed me back. And we hugged and that was the night. I'd say it was a success.

Man that's soo ****ing cute :D

Haha. It was man. I'd be a liar if I said that I didn't enjoy every second of it.

Thanks vashti and AJ. Yeah, this is my first girl, if you can even call it that at this point. I mean, don't get me wrong, I've talked to other girls before and I've gone on dates, but it's never gone anywhere. For one reason or another, it never worked up until this point. I would get stuck in the friend zone or come on too strong or I'd be too afraid to make a move. But this time's different. With the help of y'all and the help of friends, I've been successful. I've kept my distance and played the game, and slowly things are starting to unfold in my favor. So, a big thank you is in order to everyone that has helped me, especially vashti, carl, and AJ.

Now, I have another question. I gave her a call last night at around 7. She didn't answer and I didn't leave a message. When should I call her back?

What is the purpose of your call? Are you trying to set another date?



On a separate note, I want to warn you not to go too crazy with the extravagant dates. (Yes, for a kid, they are pretty extravagant.) I don't know what your financial situation is like, but it is awfully difficult for a kid with a limited income to maintain the pace you are setting. Also, you are setting yourself up for difficulties "topping yourself" during birthdays, holidays, whatever. And of course, you want to be sure the girl you are dating likes you for YOU, rather than the nice places you are taking her.

Maybe you can mix in some low-cost/free activities. My son takes his girlfriend hiking and biking quite a bit, and they do videos with a bunch of friends quite a bit. They only go out on dates like you describe about once every 3-4 weeks at this point because his income is limited and he doesn't have a regular job.

I mean, do what you like and can afford to do without becoming resentful, but don't feel like you need to always do something that is costing you $$$.

I just want to call her and talk. But I want to wait long enough not to come off as needy or clingy. But don't get me wrong, I do want to get together with her again this weekend. And I haven't really gone all out with the money. The first night was the most expensive just because of the number of activities. But, we got into the Greek Festival for free. The food was $12. The water was $2. The Loukoumades were free. The coffees cost me like $9. Then the movie tickets were like $17. So the whole night was $40.

Then are second date was $30 for dinner. And then we came back to my house and watched a movie and cuddled. That was free :D

For our next date, I'm going to make some hot chocolate and put it in a thermos for us and drive around the expensive neighborhoods looking at all the Christmas lights. What do y'all think of that. So that date won't cost too much, unless we go somewhere and even then, it won't be too bad. But thanks, I definitely don't want to come off as too extravagant or like I'm trying too hard.

Personally I hate leaving voicemails in general. If someone doesn't pick up I usually send them a text saying I couldn't get ahold of you and then a brief summary of what I wanted to ask.

As for what to do now. Does she have your phone number in her phone? If not she probably may have mistaken it for a random missed call and just ignored it. I've done this a couple time. As for when to call back, to be honest...I don't know. Let one of the forum mom's answer that one for you.

Well, if you want to go out Saturday, call tomorrow at the latest. For Friday, call her tonight. Forget the aloofness (not that you need it any more), it shows respect for the girl not to appear as though you are taking her for granted. Some girls (somewhat older than you) even have a silly "3 day rule" ... they will never accept a date without 3 days' notice unless there is some reason like a last minute opportunity (I think it was from a book on dating for women).

About the "aloofness," I wasn't intentionally trying to play the game or whatever. I just didn't want to come off as pushy or needy too quickly. Since I called her on Sunday night and didn't leave a message and she didn't return my call, I didn't want to call her too soon after that. Thanks again for all of the help man.
