Sorry...I was just following the trend...anyways...I don't get what you mean really. Sometimes you just meet somebody and it is good, there is something there. Maybe it boils down to basic biology and it is all scent or maybe there is something more complicated about it.
I know there are wrong reasons to have one but the right reasons? I guess like Girl68 said, to enjoy life with somebody you like to be around and who makes you happy. Why else...well other than I like blowjobs.

I think the reasons to want a SO is what someone already said. To enhance your quality of life.
If your a well rounded person, content to be alone, and work, play and all other things, but feel like your missing something, it could be your sign to look for a SO. You need to be happy with yourself (for the most part), and accept who you are, flaws and things that are great about you. If your looking for someone to talk to and share everything with as a best friend and more, a lover and someone you truly enjoy being around all the time, and it doesn't have to be a chore. That's not to say that it doesn't take work, but it shouldn't be a strain every single day to be with this person. A lot of people are just looking for a SO... I'm looking for a soul mate. Whether your religious or not, this website, beliefnet.com is great for words of inspiration, how to deal with stress and relationships and things like that. :)
Couldn't have put it better myself. My philosophy in life is... life is hard enough, why invite other stuff in to make it harder..? My relationship is fast approaching the one year anniversary. For us we have total honesty, respect, love and friendship. We have had our ups and downs ... but both of them have been EASY. That is, even in the difficult moments it has been easy to work it out. It simply takes equality of commitment. If you're on the same page, going the same place, it'll work. My whole reason for having a SO is to share my happiness with that person.
