are we talkin bout the marijuana
I have smoked for 10 years now. (Yeesh...and I remember saying it was a temporary thing). I never smoked more than 1/3 of a pack/day over that time, but have slowly been cutting down since January and now a pack lasts me about 3 weeks. By next month I will no longer smoke! Guaranteed. There's just one final hurdle I haven't been able to get over...the bedtime smoke. :(
i've smoked since 19. not much though max of 2 a day unless i am drinking.
I switched completely to E-cigs in January. Haven't had a real cigarette since 01/06/11 ... I don't even use the e-cig much either.
I started at 16, quit at 17, didn't smoke again until I was 27. Met my husband, a smoker. Have been smoking on and off since then (4 years now) and it's been more ON than off. I usually quit when he makes another attempt at quitting. His longest stretch has been 3 mos.
HOWEVER I decided to quit last week, even though he's not planning to at this point in time. I went cold turkey last Sunday.....doing pretty good.
Had my first smoke at 4 (offered by my gate guard Lazarus back in Zambia ) :P , coughed from it and haven't had it since. Maybe that's what kept me away from it, would thank him now if only he was still alive.
Don't smoke & truthfully never even tried it. Been around enough smokers over the years to have probably just as bad of lungs as smokers...lol
And I hope that one day people will not judge us by the colour of our lungs but by the content of our character
maybe worry less about people judging u, more about the grim reaper ? :DQuote:

Five months without one now but reading this just gave me a craving. Thanks.. NOT! ;O)
Yea smoked since i was 16 hate it but hell my body tried to quit last year and failed after doc said you have brain lesions, multiple scerosis and oh yea by the time your 45 you will be crippled and in a chair (already there at 40)due to a diseased spine so i got bets on which will get me first.
If i cant laugh about it, there's no way im gonna cry :D
I've smoked for 26 of the last 27 years. Quit for 5 months once and started up again, quit for 7 months and started up again... I'm a dumbass.
I made myself three resolutions for this year, one of them is that I'm going to quit smoking before the year is out. Been cutting back, need to make the cutting back more drastic.
The other two resolutions:
Marry the woman of my dreams - done.
Complete a Century Ride (100 miles in a day) on my bicycle... need to step up my training for that too.
wowzer! Where do you get the lung strength to ride like that when you smoke? Your lungs must be in good shape.
I did quit for a few months until a couple weeks ago when the car I was driving broke down in a field in the middle of nowhere. Had nothing to do until someone came and picked us up plus I felt pretty bad though it wasn't my fault... and I guess I broke down too.
My cardiovascular system is actually in pretty good shape. Used to piss my ex off that my blood pressure was always dead normal despite my drinking and smoking... hers wasn't.Quote:

Most of the time I ride at a moderate pace, try to ride a consistent speed. My main bicycle is a 27 year old Schwinn mountain bike (no suspenseion) that I've rigged for street duty, so the geometry and gearing are not set up for speed. Normally I ride around 15 - 20mph. A century ride should take me about 6 to 7 hours. My main problems will be the heat and hydration issues that go with it. I've done several 50 mile days and they've kicked my butt, but I WILL do a 100 mile day before the year is out.
BTW, I climbed on the scale this weekend, and since I gave up driving 3 years ago, I've now lost a total of 40 Lbs. 180 Lbs, FTW! 10-15 more to go and I'll be happy.
Way to go, HIA.. :)
I have smoked for 10 years now. (
My hubby is still smoking and occasionally over the past two weeks I will ask him for one, and he says no. Normally I don't like 'controlling' behaviour in men, but this one I'll let slide because I know he's doing it for my own good. I told him before I quit no to give in to my pleas for a cigarette no matter how pathetic I got.
If you told him to tell you no, and he's telling you no, that's not controlling behavior, that's controlled behavior. :P
Imagine how fit you'd be if you didn't smoke. Holy moley. The weight control thing is a major benefit of smoking, tho. I know so many who inflated once they gave up smokes.Quote:

As for me, I tried it as a teen. Even had to learn for a play I was in, lol. Dated a guy who did. I never got into it. What I said before about the different susceptibilities to addiction. Ain't got that gene, I guess.
Nor the fattiness of our livers? LOL!Quote:

I smoke copious amounts of tobacco and marijuana.
I sometimes complement this with LSD, MDMA, mushrooms, DMT, DXM, hydrocodone/codeine, alcohol, or occasionally salvia.
My heart rate is 68 and my blood pressure is normal.
That's b/c you are 20 and immortal. Call back in 20 years.Quote:

I do find it odd that my government simultaneously gave me the ability to get drunk and own a pistol. It's like they're trying to tell me something.
[edit] I'm only immortal because I'm white.
I know. Believe me I know. I probably could've been a competitive bike racer. Now I'm just a competent olde farte.Quote:

Yeah... when I was 21 I was 5'9" (grew an inch a year later), 165 Lbs., ate whatever I wanted, cholesterol was low, resting heart rate of about 65, low blood pressure, worried about nothing. Fast forward 21 more years and I'm 180 Lbs. after having lost 40, blood pressure still in the normal range but no longer low.Quote:

It IS fun however, when I'm out on a ride on my "ancient, heavy" mountain bike and I blow the doors off a young pup on his high-dollar race bike. :DQuote:

I smoke 20 a day. I run 8 miles a day easily, but I dont want my son growing up watching me smoke...and its getting colder over here as winter approaches and I dont really enjoy being stood outside in the cold so my last cigarette will be on 31/08/2011. From then on its cold turkey, I have done it once so can do it again.
^ That's what they all say...
Good job i'm not them "all" then :)
Smoked for two weeks whilst on holiday as an 18yo. came back, and never smoked again.
It wasn't for me.
As a non-smoker, being around smokers isn't always pleasant.
Kissing someone who smokes is even less pleasant; people's mouths were not meant to taste of ashtrays and cancer :-/
How do you know what ashtrays and cancer taste like?Quote:

I know what ashtrays smell like, so l am guessing the flavour may be reminiscent, although l am not willing to give it a go.
As for cancer, well, that's the best way l can find to describe it; just a toxic, unnatural aftertaste that reminds me that smoking kills ;-/
Yeah... just a pet peeve of mine. Like when somebody says "This tastes like shit!" I usually ask 'em when the last time they ate shit was. :-DQuote:
