Wow how cruel is that? Do you mean they are simply born that way? I never thought Pedo as a different sexual orientation. But kinda makes sense. I would never even dare to say it's sexual orientation. It's mental illness, but as we know, not every illness has a cure.

Everyone has some sexual orientation, but if one day someone told me, it's illegal to have sex with adult men and I can go to jail for a long time, be stigmatize by society and even maybe killed by someone because of it, I would definitely restrain from having sex. So why can't pedophiles do it? Because they are SICK. When you're mentally sick, you cannot always judge your actions correctly. This kind of fixation is not normal , thus it's an illness.

To be clear, I'm not saying it's good they rape and abuse children. They should seek for help for their mental state. But on the other way, how can they look for help without putting themselves in trouble? I would say, it's a fault as well of us people, because we still didn't find a way to fix this issue.
It's a very complex problem, I think we cannot see it in black&white colours. It will take us many years until we understand it and find a good way out.

They CAN talk to someone without getting in trouble. It's not a crime to think about having sex with children. It's a crime to DO it. But talking to someone doesn't change their orientation, any more than it changes a homosexual's orientation.

Ok I didn't want to compare gays to pedophiles, but you did, fine ... You're a nurse so you should know it's classified as a mental disorder. You just admited that gays are mentally ill too. I just thought you're rather gay friendly person.
Again, just because there is no cure that works , it doesn't mean that pedopfilia isn't an illness. Just admit it's the way you want to think about it. Personal opinion doesn't have to be always correct. I have it all the time.

I don't think therapy would 'cure' it either. It's a very psychoanalytical way of looking at the situation. Not every person who had a bad childhood becomes some sick criminal and some people who had the ideal childhood grow up and become criminals and sick in the head. It's a large array of aspects that come together and shape the way people think/act. For the most part though I think all pedophiles are pathological. They need to be convicted and helped( however which way effective). Also laws and regulations can be a bit gray at times, I don't think it should be statutory rape if some 18 year old has sex with a 17 year old. some old guy raping a 10 yr old kid, is obviously wrong.

And in the end the school does look a lot worse for covering this up for 10 years. Supposedly someone did tell the 'school officials' THEY did not go to the police. They should really say byebye to their reputation because of that. How irresponsible and disgusting of the school to do something so horrendous. I mean the gy has some 40 F***ing assault charges against him right now and the school covered for him. SICK SICK SICK people.

The difference between being straight or homosexual and being a pedophile is that children are unable to consent to sex, so having sex with them is a criminal act. In addition to a pedophile being attracted to children, they also demonstrate blatant disregard for for the fact that their partner of choice is unable to consent, and they cause actual harm to their victims.

Also, being homosexual is NOT a mental disorder, but pedophilia is, at least according to the experts. Therapy does not remove the impulse to have sex with children, but rather is geared towards having the pedophile refrain from indulging their impulses. They are not "cured" of pedophilia. I don't know where you got the impression that I said pedophilia is not a mental illness. That is - quite frankly - ridiculous.

To me sexual orientation cannot be equal to mental sickness. Just don't see it that way. I have watched tons of documentary movies about pedophiles or serial killers. What's repeating everytime is that they were abused as children, raped, beaten up by parents. It repeats in a very big part of those cases so I do see a connection between this and the fact that they rape or kill in the future. Unfortunately, no one does statistics for it so we can't search in this direction. But as many mental illnesses that start because of some concrete bad experiences, pedophilia might be the same case.
Maybe there is no cure for pedophiles and never will be, but we should find the best therapy for those children, victims so they will not become abusers in the future.

I'm not a mother yet, so I can look at the problem objectively, but maybe such people are needed to solve this problem... Oh and on other note, what I find more disgusting and where I feel more powerless is when pedophilia happens in familly. And this is what happens most of the times. It's incest on top of it. But of course it's not so popular since mostly one or tops 2 kids get involved and everything happens in one familly... It's better to talk about some teacher or priest , at least we can blame whole group for it (like all teachers or priests would be pedophiles...) .
