Are you suggesting that 'harden criminals' are unaffected knowing they have to spend the rest of their life in prison, doing the same exact thing day in and day out, surrounded by MEN for the rest of their existance, and there is no chance for them to get out?Originally Posted by Rosebud
Well it depends. Are we talking about serial killers? Cause I don't think someone who murders like 48 people is really worried about spending the rest of their life in prison.
i havent read nething here exept for the first post lol, but an Australian was executed in Indonesia a few weeks ago and i was absolutly disgusted and didnt feel our government did enough to get him off, he was 25 and wasnt even aloud to give his mother a hug...
Of course there are always your anomaly's.Originally Posted by Junsui
I meant the common/average prisoner serving life.
What do you get life for? What do you have to do in order to get life in prison with no chance of parole?
So you are saying that you favor rehabilitation? Because you would be correct in saying that rehabilitation is not generally part of the prison experience, which explains in part why you see so many repeat offenders. Personally, I think rehabilitation for lesser criminals on their first offense would be a good idea, but I don't think it will solve societal crime problems. Those who truly have no remorse for their crimes are medically called sociopaths, and they cannot be rehabilitated. Why should I care if they regret their crimes so long as they are locked away forever?Originally Posted by Rosebud
I think you should rethink your assertion that criminals don't care about being in prison (I will assume for the moment you are talking about repeat offenders). That is like saying that a woman who is battered doesn't mind being beaten. Of course they mind; they just don't know another way to live.
I don't think that criminals actually think about the consequences of their actions. They live in the moment, just as most teenagers do. They lack impulse control.

You think everyone serving life with no chance of parole is a serial killer with a ****ed up mind, psychopath, brutally murdered 20+ people?Originally Posted by Junsui
And do you also think everyone serving life is guilty of their charges?
Umm Tone, I was asking what do you have to do to get that.
And no, I don't. I watched The Life of David Gale last night. Interesting movie.Originally Posted by Tone
OH YEAH - that's the movie - was thinkin about it a couple weeks ago and no one could remember what the name was...
I really liked that movie - was very interesting.
Yes Tone I was referring to serial killers who kill for the thrill..the only life they know! So no I don't think they care they are in prison since they do the same exact things in there. How many killers want recognition for their actions, when they are caught everyone wants to talk about them and make them a biography because of how they did what they did and how they think, they are trying to accomplish something and are succeeding!Originally Posted by vashti
And vashti yes I agree in rehabilition for lesser/first offenses (depending on severity). I agree with you I don't think it would help societal problems. And yes I'm talking about the sociopaths which I have been all along, and that they are not truly being punished by ebing in prison for life since that's the type of life they live anyways. If you look at their actual life it's not much differnet from prison excpet for the most part they can't prey on innocent people.
And that is exactly my point..they don't know another way to live so it doesn't bother them that are put in prison. Because of what they have known or how they have lived. I'm saying they adjust themselves to the prison life (which doesn't take much) and do the same things in there... Yes they all want to be free and don't really want to be in prison...But the prisons are the way they are because the criminals make it that way, it's how they live!
I hope this makes sense, as I'm not saying one would chose prison over being free, I'm saying they make prisons the way they are. They are the cause of what happens in prisons....

PhaZo, you're thinking about Singapore not Indonesia. It's nice to know you feel sorry for drug dealers silly enough to traffic drugs in a country where drug dealing is a capitol punishment offence...
Don't cry, don't regret and don't blame
Weak find the whip, willing find freedom
Towards the sun, carry your name
In warm hands you are given

Uncertainty's gone, your path will unravel
Accept all as it is and do not blame

Frenchmaid---I didn't see the movie "Monster".
I think it's quite alright to execute people. If the country's laws state execution for serious crimes like murder, rape, drug trafficking etc etc, than honour the law. If one chooses to disobey, than move country or be prepared to get executed. It's simple.
