I can't believe anyone would take your suggestion seriously, anxious (no offense). In this case, it is better to regret the thing that you *didn't* do than to regret the thing you did. Genuine remorse over hurting someone is very hard to live with.

Twisted, this crush isn't about the best friend guy. At all. If he didn't exist, you'd be projecting this anxiety onto someone else. It's about you and your relationship, and I think if you do as Glyph suggested and ask yourself the tough questions (and give yourself the honest answers), this fixation will vanish like a puff of smoke.
Good for you for being responsible enough to try to deal with it rather than just jump on the guy.
