What makes a man behave like this?

I'm curious. A man I know (in his forties) has always been very critical of overweight women. However he is now dating a very overweight woman (he does not know that I know she is overweight).

Yet only this week he laughed and joked about an overweight colleague about her size (and she is not as big as his girlfriend). I tested the water and made some reference to me not being a "big fat blonde" (his girlfriend is also blonde). He still laughed as if that was not a good thing to be.

He says this relationship could be serious so how can he be so rude and critical about larger women yet date one? Where is the respect? What does he want from her? Can he really care about her?

If he's dating an overweight women, then her weight apparently doesn't matter because he likes her for other things. Good for him.

I am sure there is much about her he does like but it disturbs me that he continues to laugh and joke about overweight women.
