I agree, but since we can't compel people to get their sh*t together, removing their weapons seems like the next best thing.

Tiay they actually do......... And they use them too, on a daily basis. Stopping joyriders, robbers etc. Remember that guy [John Carthy] who was shot in his home in Longford by the Gardai during a seige? Remember a big investigation afterwards.

You already do! You may not be able to buy handguns easily but rifles and shotguns are everywhere. 2 of my friends own shotguns and go game shooting at weekends. This country is awash with guns.

There are a load of AK47'S, MP5 etc floating around illegally and the IRA are suspected to have held onto alot of guns and artillery despite having de-commissioned.

If we didn't have a gun problem here why would the government introduce a gun amnesty: http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/front/2005/0521/4132359559HM1GUNAMNESTY.html

When there was a similar amnesty in the UK in 2003, 43,000 weapons and one million rounds of ammunition were handed over to police.

I know- but the regular police doesn't have guns. I've certainly never seen an officer with a gun here. Some People have shotguns for hunting, of course. That's not the same handguns, and it's not the same mentality associated with it at all. And then there's the IRA of course, and illegal guns, and those gang wars in stab cit-- er.. limerick. But it is still not near the same scale as in the states.

The regular Trafic Corps or Garda Joe Soap doesn't but alot of the other do.
And don't forget the Gardai & army when they escort Brinks while delivering money to the banks [Although I do question whether or not they are loaded]

I know it's not near the same scale but there are a lot of guns here, perfectly capable of killing people if in the wrong hands. I'm just saying they are readily available to anyone who wants one.

I blame the media AND the parents (but only if the shooter is under 18).

what about video games?

(yes Derm, i've seen bank deliveries- The military has firearms. and yes, if somebody really wanted to get a hold of an illegal firearm, they could manage somehow.. I wouldn't call that 'readily available' though, not like in the states.)

How about we blame the dumbass that commits the crime?

There's few that will commit a crime like murder with a weapon and not know it.

In fact, I will say nobody can commit a crime with a gun and not know in some aspect that there will be repercussions for those actions, whether they believe the act is just or not.

That is what most partents, media, an the politicians use as a scape goat. And quite frankly I am tired of people using it as one. Most of the time it has nothing to do with the crime commited.

Essentially you could link just about anything to the cause of a shooting.

Hell, did you know they pump beef with steroids?

Testosterone increases aggression y'know...

Could you please back that comment up with evidence? Because on the contary, I come across emperical evidence supporting the notion that people who play video games are more aggressive.
