I brought it up as an example of how poorly done 'science' can confuse people. The folks in that film were mostly quacks but people see that film and believe it. Its a Disney film, from the bringers of Make Believe. What the bleep do you expect?
Mayhaps just on an innate caveman-like level where it is a product of evolution, and mayhaps it is something more. I'm just philosophizing.
Okay, its a nice idea. But is it science? But when you start using words like *evolution* (which IS a scientific term), this is where the water starts to be muddied. As I showed before, deconstructionists like to use science words for non-scientific ideas. Confusing to most, except for a scientist who knows better. And those blessed with good BS detectors.
As far as Chi and all that metaphysical stuff goes, I never actually stated it as a fact. In fact, I know that many scientists will call it bullshit. But did you know, that there are now nurses getting licensed in Reiki and the healing touch to use on patients?
Of course I know this. I know folks spending four years of their life become homeopaths, which is basically diluting something beyond avogadros number & then claiming the water has somehow been 'changed' by this process.
That's not to say that these things don't have benefit to the recipient. I actually think they do. But its all placebo effect. Because the patient *believes* it will help them.
When I bring up atoms, versus solar systems, I am saying that we haven't seen the smallest of the small, it is infinite as far as we know. When I bring up solar systems, I am saying that we can only see so deep. But I think it's amazing that particles in our bodies resemble deep space.
Fine. I just don't understand how that comment was related to your point. I don't think it is, but it is cool. We are all stardust. Yep.
The point of this thread originally was to discuss if memories have weight. We don't even know what makes up a memory, how the sensory input into each particle of our bodies affects our minds. I just took it a step further and included the soul in my part of the discussion. If you want to debate about soul and life source versus non-soul and non- life source, make a new thread.
I never brought up soul, life force, etc. You did (chi). FWIW, some of the neurotransmitters involved in memory are known. Its not a complete black box. NMDA receptors, oxytocin, behaviour of brain cells. People who study things like Alzheimers disease & dementia are very interested in these molecules.
You haven't read that critical thinking link, I can tell. Why not? Its not like you have anything to lose, its just information. It will help you develop those creative thoughts of yours even more, I think. You really should. Night Derby.
Second thoughts can generally be amended with judicious action; injudicious actions can seldom be recovered with second thoughts.
