I can't be oppressed. Not here anyways
I'm stating it how it is
Another kind of racism kind of swept under the rug is the large number of Jews hateful of Germans. I've seen plenty of it, but literally nobody mentions it
I have no idea what you're talking about, and there's a helluvalot more wops in the NE than down here. (Though the Italians have their own parade/festival down here).
No, I don't.
Since when did anyone take a Jew seriously, anyway?
Well I've noticed it. On multiple separate occassions I've had Jewish friends claim to me that the German language was the only one to have a word that means "pleasure at the expense of anothers pain." Which was clearly outrageous, because that's the very definition of the English word for "sadism" which I pointed out to them in both cases. They were very gleeful to point it out though
Plenty of other actually serious insults, those were just some I found to be odd... like kind of meme-ish, it seemed so improbable for that to happen by chance
Obviously these experiences happened in college, because I knew 1 and a half Jews total from my hometown
Jewish animosity toward Germans is pretty understandable, in the circumstances.
Is it burnin'? Well, f-ck, now you're learnin'.
The fact he might be Italian never occurred to me, only that the name didn't sound native Australian. Of course, there are a lot of immigrants in Oz (like Canada) so not that it matters, really.

Australia's such a mixed bag, I don't even notice foreign last names anymore.
Is it burnin'? Well, f-ck, now you're learnin'.
All jews hate all germans. Every single one of us. It's part of jewish law. We even hate the German Jews, because well, they are German.
(rolling eyes)
Look, let me get a few things straight
I'm not saying all Jews actively hate Germans. Some of them do, in numbers quite a bit higher than other groups
If I was Jewish I probably wouldn't like Germans either. It's easy to be a historical observer to the suffering the Germans imposed upon the Jews and tell them from my relatively emotionally remote perspective that they shouldn't dislike an ethnicity. Particularly among Germans and Jews who lived before the war
But I'm not completely distant to it from this^ sense. One of my relatives in Italy was killed by occupying Germans (he was decimated, one of the every 10th person killed) because his town was involved in anti-German resistance. They let the suffering go around but they are a hell of a lot different now
Whether it makes me a hypocrite to say this or not, I think it's taking the high road to forgive and move on (not to forget) for the people born after the war
Secondly, I wish this guy was killed or died in the womb just as much as the next guy. He is of the lowest form of people and I do hope a vigilante kills him
The whole bit about the Italian thing; I could have more generally said that it was because the guy was of European background. The fact that he was Italian just seemed to me (from my mentioned personal experience) to make it easier for some of the other people of European background to dislike him
There is part of some other kind of phenomena I noticed. Call me crazy, I don't care, but it's this-
There's this kind of double-standard in existence for violent acts with racial motivation
When the perpetrator is white, a lot more is done to vilify them
When it is a kind of minority on minority violence, you have these victimes to sympathize with, but a nameless perpetrator
Everyone knows the perpetrators of the crimes against the Jews during WW2. They were the Nazi Germans. Everyone knows the perpetrators of the crimes against the Cherokee during the Trail of Tears. It was Andrew Jackson and the white US government
The perpetrators are known and vilified
What the hell do you know about the Darfur situation? You have the victims you sympathize with and pity, but don't know the first thing about who is inflicting it on them

Are you meaning schadenfreude (or whatever)? This is becoming such an overused word. Like the use of 'novel' a few years back. Bleh. Tell your friends they are just being brainwashed by the media, DM. In fact, I remember an article in Science (double bleh) using this term in the title a few months ago. Another author using trendy terms to get a paper published. Science editors are sucking bad these days. I can find the article for you if you like, tho you can search medline as well as I.

I actually know a little bit about Darfur.
Also, I guess I am dumb. I always considered Italians to be white, and I've never heard of derogatory statements being made about Italians... Maybe we just don't have a large enough population in Los Angeles? Or maybe I just don't really hang with people who talk this way in my private life.
BTW - I actually DO hear a lot of stupid anti-Jewish things said by stupid people who don't know I'm Jewish. In fact, the last time was just yesterday. People are idiots. I have to listen - on a semi-regular basis - to dumb asses talk about how "Jewish noses" actually exist, and of course Jews with money, and Jews going to hell for not believing in Jesus. (rolling eyes) oh - and the icing on the cake is how I am supposed to laugh about it every single time I hear it, and pretend that the person saying it really loves Jews, and has 10 Jewish friends, blah blah blah.
I do not feel obligated to laugh at other people's stupidity.

Maybe, I can't remember what the word was. I was just very surprised that two of my Jewish friends (who most likely do not even know each other) would both get to mentioning that to me
I realize the anti-Italianism may have been some kind of local fad or something, but how that happened is beyond me
And the Irish are white (whitter than hell as a matter of fact) yet a lot of people hated them when they came here
A lot of people have this idea that all Italians are black haired and dark skinned. Which is a complete stereotype. Some of my full blooded Italian relatives have blonde and red hair, and blue and green eyes
