Hate crime news out of Australia

In Melbourne, 21-year-old John Caratozzolo has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for the racially-motivated gang murder of an Asian researcher at Victoria University.

Caratozzolo apparently told his group of friends he wanted to get a mobile phone from an Indian student "because they had better phones." They then brutally attacked Dr. Zhongjun Cao, who they took to be of Indian descent. (He's actually Chinese.)

The guy was just walking down the street, on his way home, minding his own business. Next thing he knows, he's on the ground, getting his head kicked in by a bunch of racist punks. Over a goddamn cell phone? Now he's dead an Caratozzol gets 15 years?

Racist extremists have a tendency to be really stupid.

Seems like half the time they manage to kill the wrong people.

It's too bad Australia doesn't have the death penalty

But 15 years.... how that can actually be the sentence for murder?

Doesn't sound like an aussie name, tho. Immigrant? Australia takes a lot of them in, more than any other country in the world (as a %age).

Too bad there weren't any other folks around. Aussies tend not to tolerate that kind of thing.

    Anyway, nutcases are everywhere.

I don't know very many Italians, actually. The ones I do know seem okay, if a bit emotional.

I've lived in Australia for the better part of 13 years, Sonrisa.

    Your comments are silly.

Scarface was about a Cuban and other Cubans. Even though Al Pacino (who played Tony Montana) is Italian

Anyways, I know plenty of Italians. It is the second largest ethnic group in Rochester, after Germans. You can't blame this guys crazyness on being Italian like how you can't blame the Virginia Tech guys crazyness on being South Korean
