Question about dating a previously married man.

I am interested in a man who was a daughter from a previous relationship. I was wondering if anyone has any advice on how to talk to her about it and how to get her to be accepting of me. We haven't talked to her about it yet.

    What she^ said.

Stick your nose into the father-daughter dynamic too quick & you run the risk of pissing them both off. Relax. Good luck.

You can't tell someone how to be accepting of you. Acceptance is something you will need to encourage with your positive actions.

I really don't think that'll help much in this situation.

    WTF?

Well, if I do end up marrying him or even dating him, I want her to feel as though we are all a family. I didn't mean I would tell her that we're dating, just that I want to get to know her and let her get to know me and hopefully we'll get along well. I was just wondering if there is any advice anyone has, prefferably from previous experience, that could help make things go a little more smoothly.

I have previous experience... tons of it. I don't think you should even meet her until you guys are 75% sure you plan to get married, and then, you should attempt for nothing more than being friendly. If she has a mom, she will resent you regardless of how wonderful you are, so I do not advise you think of yourself as a "mom substitute", and you should definitely leave ALL the dirty work (punishment, limit setting, etc.) to her father. trust me on this. Just have fun with her.

    I don't see a problem.
I will do my best to reply with an educated, humble and honest answer. Ultimately, it is up to you whether you want to listen to my advice or ignore it completely. Sometimes, my advice may be wrong; occasionally, it will be right. Regardless, I want to do my best to give people answers they are seeking.

I definitly don't want to take the place of her mom, I'm not even old enough to be her mom. I think that's good advice though- just being her friend.

The problem is most kids don't accept their step-parents. Also, I'm too young to be her mom. I don't know if she'll have a problem with that.

The dad was probably an arse. Go watch 40-Year Old Virgin. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it.
