Doc, you live in society you follow society's rules. If you don't like it, buy a plot of land in the middle of nowhere, or start a compound, and do what you like there.

Reminds me of the Quebecquois. They wanted all the rights of a 'distinct society', wanted to call their own shots, have their own laws... but wanted to keep Canadian currency and passports.

Sorry, but when you choose to live in a society (and, at least in ours, it IS a choice), then you follow the rules of the majority. You don't get to pick and choose the rules you like and those you don't. Not without consequences, anyway.
Second thoughts can generally be amended with judicious action; injudicious actions can seldom be recovered with second thoughts.

Read up on the difference between a republic and a democracy first, Indi, then talk to me about this subject. I don't have the time or the patience to deal with socialist sheep mentality at the moment.

Once in a while, a nice little revolution changes your nice little society. Change is good.

Oh btw.. if this 'majority society' is so grand.. how come we live in such a effing mess?

    You honestly think so?

Ever sit by a fire hours after dark?

Keep it burning well into the night so it's ready to start back up again for breakfast?

What about all those that have a fire place in their homes and burn throughout the winter?

My point is, to claim that cigarette smoke drastically adds to outside air pollution is bullshit. I have no problem with anyone smoking outside in public areas.

It smells really bad though and even if it doesnt really do damage it's still something I should not have to inhale it in crowded public areas. It smells nasty as ****.

All these comparisons are so stupid. They all smell bad. They all need a change. The topic is cigarettes so I gave my input on them. Just because other shit smells bad doesnt make it acceptable to smoke cigarettes in crowded areas. They smell disgusting.

Yeah ok, but what about my clean air which is being polluted by all those car exhausts?

I guess you fail to see the bigger picture here. The smell of cigarettes is nothing compared to the crap we all inhale on a daily base.

It's still disgusting to have the smoke blown straight up your nose as opposed to just lingering around in the air. Some people are so rude and just blow it straight up your nose as you're passing by and it's just plain out disrespectful. There are designated areas for it. If people weren't so rude and only smoked in designated areas then I wouldn't care. I'm not saying it's the biggest reason why the place is polluted, I am only saying it's disgusting. The weed thing in my first post was a joke, hence the lol.

Actually people do blame other things as well for health related problems, that's why there are so many initiatives and drives for alternative fuels and for taxes on heavy polluters. But do you really believe that second hand smoke from cigarettes is not ALSO part of the problem?

And whiny, crying children are annoying to the ears.

I'll take a smoker in a restaurant over a crying baby, any day.

That's because you haven't learned the techniques to block them out. You'd know when a serious cry comes around.

    So ignore the smoke.

I don't see why my conversations should be subject to interruption just because a baby feels like it's okay to scream in a restaurant.
