Hmm, that gets tricky cuz heroine/cocaine is MAD addictive and I remember at one point in history China made it pretty legal and imported a ton of that stuff and it ****ed the country up (and then came the Opium Wars).

I'm pretty torn, I think people should be given a choice and if they were dumb enough to get addicted then they probably deserved it but it's not that simple.

Actually, China never legalized Opium, it was merely unregulated. Opium had been outlawed in China for over a century by the time the Opium Wars broke out.

Hence i said "pretty legal" and not "legal".

Not enforcing a rule is essentially allowing it.

You're right that not enforcing a rule is de facto allowing it, but that wasn't the case in China. There was no rule to enforce, the government didn't know about it. So China's government didn't make anything pretty legal, they were simply ignorant of it.

I'm probably wrong cuz I'm recalling this stuff from my 2nd year of high school history but how can China be ignorant of it if they were importing that stuff by the truckload?

Or are you saying that there was no rule in the first place hence my usage of the word legal is incorrect. If that's the case, I like the way you think lol.

If you know about the Opium Wars you should also know that the cause of it is China refusing to trade in opium, which was what the Brits used as currency because when they were paying silver for the tea they almost went bankrupt.

So it wasn't a choice or ignored, it was forced upon 'em.
