I understand where you're coming from but I think people are picky. Not just women. I've read some posts by men on this site going on and on about all of the qualities they want in a woman and most seem to be physical. I'm not saying this is wrong, I'm just pointing it out.

That being said I know how superficial I am and I've never once uttered the words "Looks don't matter." Most of my girlfriends feel the same way. It's not about being mean, it's simply about attraction. In my mind the only difference between my regular guy friends and an actual boyfriend is intimacy which is led by sex. If I'm not attracted to the guy I won't want to have sex with him, end of story. But that's just me.

Also, a wonderful thing about people is that attraction varies. People are attracted to different physical characteristics so "good looking" is really subjective most of the time.

I am male and I am not the one touting around saying looks do not matter. I would not settle for a girl that could not give me a boner.

The only way I would ever get with an ugly man, thereby opening up the possibility that it could get serious and we could eventually have kids together is if he had enough bank to pay for plastic surgery in case they resembled him.

This is another one of those subjective posts about a subjective subject (hmmm, not too bad,, lots of alliteration). EVERYONE'S idea of beauty is different, one man's tuna fish is another man's cat food. My brother and I have this argument all of the time. He thinks Julia Roberts is gorgeous, he likes her slender body, her smile, and her legs. I think she's ugly , she's too skinny, her mouth is as big as a plumber's helper, and her legs are like sticks. This is what makes dating so much fun, finding the person that YOU think is beautiful and thinks you are hot in return. It's not a matter of shallow or deep, it's all about preference.

My own question is: Why does it seem that most really big women are with scrawny little guys? My neighbor is about 5'6" and I'm guessing 155 or 165 in weight. His wife is two inches taller, at least, and tops the scales at around 250. WTF? I mean , you see this all the time?

Maybe the scrawny little guys - lacking in their own body mass - are attracted to women with more of it? And actually, neither body type is considered ideal, so maybe they are both just taking comfort in someone who is a willing partner.

I have a scrawny guy friend who is with a big, big girl. I can't claim to understand it, but he is happy as a clam with her.

In Australia, in certain situtions intelligence is still more important than looks. If I were a chick I'd find the smartest guy I could so that my children could become doctors.

I hear that in American society looks are practically the most important thing when it comes to hiring and firing, so if you are ugly you will basically be poor forever. Not just disadvantaged as in Australia.

It is not subjective, hot chicks are hot. I may prefer black hair blue eyes my friend may prefer blonde hair blue eyes.

It is like buying a new car, everyone likes a good car, but we all have different preferences for the make and model. That does not mean someone is going to pick the 1991 Corolla over the 2009 Honda Civic just because they like Corolla.

I am massive and I prefer little chicks. However I think most men do, something about being sure they won't eat their kids food.

The only women that ever seem to be attracted to me are small too (although what is small to me is probably average size for a girl), tall women never pay me the time of day.
