I suppose if I had to summarize my feelings on this I'd say I despise how sex is being paraded by some people I know (no one on LF) as the best thing one could ever hope to achieve the pinnacle of unimaginable success without which you are a nobody and to which everything pales in comparison. People collect sex encounters and one nights stands like video games or stamps comparing the number of people they've slept with to their peers lest someone overtakes their dominance and numeric superiority, while laughing at those who are single for not getting any like they are some kind of lepers cast out from society. This weird desire to become a greater person by rooting random people = somehow dominating and absorbing them, like Melanesian cannibals who thought they absorbed the qualities of the people they ate. I guess I just don't understand this strange obsession and why some people attach so much value to it. I mean sex is nice, it's a good experience to share with someone you care about, but it's not the best thing in the world, it's not something to get at any cost and at any sacrifice, it's not an achievement that increases a person's value or defines a person's value, it's not something to which personal values should be surrendered to, it's not something to be a slave to or something to pine over and be obsessed about.
