there IS something like custody over a dog but i think it's just in case of a divorce and if both ex partners can't agree on it - i've seen this somewhere in a news paper...

guys have a special relationship with their dogs. i hate to hear about girls fighting for the dog after a break up, except if he doesn't take care of it and doesn't train it and she does.
i wouldn't have the heart to take a dog from a man. sometimes i think it's easier to take kids away from them.
baby ya hustle. but me i hustle harder.
That's pretty insightful, misombra, especially given that you are a huge (female) dog lover.
Maybe in the event of a breakup, men should get the dogs, and women get the kids?
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?
yes! that's usually how it goes isn't it lol.
it's probably because dogs are so loyal. they will love a man and want to be by his side even when nobody else does. and they'll put up with his crap.
it would break my heart, but i wouldn't take the dogs away from the guy if he really wanted them.
edit: but you bet your ass i'd want to visit them and not hell nor high water would stop me.

I love my dog so much, and I don't have one yet. I think I'd be willing to murder an ex to keep the dog.
Same thing with my snake. Nobody else gets to have my Mr. Cuddles.
It's a total chick magnet, trust me![]()
Snakes seem to become extremely agitated in my presence. Whether a pet, or wild... they all seem to sense that I've arrived to detach their heads from their bodies with a shovel.
Dumb creatures with a short memory loop, but psychic.
For the people who would hang out with ex's in order to visit an animal, marry the animal and leave the humans in peace.
This thread has prompted me to show support for the dog.
Now do you think I would let any woman get between myself and Mr. Cooper? No.

You fear your own anger, the drive to do great and terrible things."

I wonder how many of the dog supporters in this thread grew up in the country/bush, or in subdivisions. When you grow up with animals you learn the code of conduct. Dressing them up in little knit jumpers, letting them sit at the table or eat your scraps, etc etc... against the code. So is treating them like defacto children.
I had plenty of pet animals growing up. The difference being, if the meat was traditionally viable, we'd eventually eat them.
I'll never forget watching my little 5 year old sister throw a hissy fit because bubbles, troubles, and cuddles the lambs were mature and ready to be hoisted up from the rafters and butchered.
All the way up to the dinner table, she was distraught. Until the smell of flour dusted tenderloin and onions became too much for her to resist.
She took a bite and asked which one it was. We guessed Cuddles...and from the mouth of babes:
"Ummm, Cuddles tastes gooood".
Sure, we washed them in wool wash not a few months before and took them to the co-op fair looking for a ribbon.
But we knew the pecking order...
maybe if you stop ****ing lambs for a second... you'll realize that they don't call a dog "man's best friend" for no reason.
slaughtering and butchering farm animals doesn't have much to do with letting some bitch-assed ho between you and your mutt. shit, i've shot and killed animals, skinned them and carved the meat out from their bones but i still have compassion for animals. it has nothing to do with hackordnung.
Ever dropped a domesticated dog pack chasing down a joey or fawn?
Best friend or not, pets are a responsibility but they're not your children and they're not human.
Compassion is not letting an animal suffer unduly.
Compassion is leaving the pet where it's accustomed to be.
I'm not going to get into a pissing contest about who shot the more ferocious beast.
For those of us without children and family, pets, particularly a dog can make a great family. You should watch that documentary on the people from New Orleans who lost their dogs during Katrina. It's pretty sad. Some people don't have anyone else to talk to but a mangy mutt, and when some dog pound hauls them off and gives them to some family never to see their owner again, man...
I was pointing out the difference between a pet and a master and by default, a human child and a pet.
Nothing more, nothing less.
I understand that people become attached to their animals and think of them as almost human.
Just reminding everyone that they are not.
My 17 yo dog was probably the best friend my father ever had. It's already 1,5 year after he died and my father is still missing him. I think there can grow such an incredible connection between a human and a dog that some people just can't imagine, you can't imagine it Doc. I saw it and still see it so I can belive it. For you dog is just another animal and another task to do, but for some people dog is not even an animal. It's a being they call their best friends, something that other human could never be for them.Because people, they change their minds, they come and go , but if a dog loves once, will love you forever. Even after you stop to love it.
