I'm sick and tired of people inferring things from what I say that I did not imply.
Yes, we own an island. You know who else owns an island? The Gonzos, who own the island next to us. Mr. Gonzo works at a fishing shop. He is not a rich man.
The next time someone--anyone--wants to make an assumption about me, because I admit to things like this, think again. Yes, my family has employed illegal immigrants, before. You know what else? My parents paid them more than minimum wage. Because even though they didn't have to, they believe in justice and fairness. My nanny growing up will forever view my father as a saint for the way he treated her.
You people act like anyone with money is evil. My dad has money, and he gives to charity. In fact, he gets HARASSED by charity organizations. He has given too much to charity, to the point that random charity groups have our home address and think that if they call us at any time of day, he will give them money via credit card.
Let me tell you something. My mom constantly tells my dad, "Stop giving your money away." Why? Because they don't appreciate it. He gave a bunch of money to a local police union, and they have been calling us on a monthly basis asking for more and more money. He'll say, "But... that money I have left is my savings." And they'll say, well, you don't need that much more money to save for retirement vacations, do you?"
Then they make us out like some kind of uncaring demons, but you know what? Those savings? Those are the college savings for my sister and I, and they have already run out. Because my parents are too nice to say no to every damn charity organization that asks for a cut of it. Are there are hundreds of them. My parents make more money than the average person, that's true, but you know what? They're in debt. That's right. Because between supporting my sister and I and paying for every single humane cause that has our phone number, we have no money left.
I really believe that the rich should help the needy, I really do. But sometimes, it gets ridiculous. Just the other day, I was walking down the street, and some guy said, "Do you support art?" I said, "Yes," and gave him some change. Do you know what he said?
"THAT'S ALL THE CHANGE YOU CAN SPARE??!!"
It's like these people think we don't work for our money. It wasn't inherited. My parents paid their way through college themselves, with part-time jobs, and they earned it. It took them 40 ****ing years, before they had earned enough that they decided they were ready to raise kids.
I know I will make even more money than my parents did, and let me tell you: I am THIS CLOSE to conclusively deciding that I will donate NONE OF IT to ANYONE for these exact reasons. Because no matter how much I give, someone will say,
"Pfft. It's your job to give, rich boy. You're still evil."
Sorry for the drunken tangent, but I'm am confident that my opinions and situation are being misunderstood, here.
