Discussing Problems
When a woman tells me about her problems I naturally want to fix them for her. Sometimes this is impossible. Oftentimes she doesn't want me to fix them.
What am I supposed to do? I know this is a common issue between men and women. So ladies, I implore you, how should I respond when a woman shares her troubles with me? I'm afraid that in my efforts to help out I belittle her issues. If it can't be fixed easily I point out all the reasons it isn't so bad as she thinks. Which isn't what she's looking for, I'm sure. I try to find the silver lining or I give examples of people who have it worse. Not good.
So say you hate your job, and you come to your guyfriend and tell him about it. There's nothing he can do. You can't up and leave the job. It's a hopeless situation, but you feel the need to voice your frustrations. How's he supposed to respond? What do you want from him? I feel like I should do more than nod and say mmmhmmm a lot, but when I open my fat mouth I usually just piss her off...
God, so atrocious in the Old Testament, so attractive in the New--the Jekyl and Hyde of sacred romance.
-Mark Twain
If people are good only because they fear punishment and hope for reward, then we are a sorry lot indeed.
