can anyone suggest any good ones? I mean like a central system that filters all water, not the drinking only.

Pelican NaturSoft Salt Free Water Softener can remove up to 75 particles per minute and requires just three seconds of contact with the water to start working, compared to the usual nine seconds from other water softeners. No backwashing is required because the system operates in an upflow. Prices range from $800 to $1,100.

I have a (rented) unit in my townhouse. I still buy bottled water for drinking.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?
Bottled water is extremely damaging to the environment. Google 'Great Pacific Garbage Patch', its unbelievable. Here are some photos:

Risa, if you are doing research on water system, check out what they use in Israel. They are the world's experts in water conservation and purification.

Actually, that's true. I don't care about killing animals for meat but I was appalled when I read how much water and energy it takes to grow 1kg of beef vs. 1kg of grain.
We are going to be in huge trouble when it gets another 1-2oC hotter.... famine and water shortages until we can get the population under control. Doom and gloom doesn't being to describe the next several decades.

I felt it was an inappropriate time to say that I wouldn't mind having someone sucking on my life straw.
