So back on topic, I'm more into the nigiri and sashimi (Hamachi being my favourite) over the American style sushi. But I'll eat pretty much anything off the menu at a sushi place.

Those in Vancouver who haven't been to the Eatery in Kitsilano or Tojo's downtown need to go to each of those places at least once.

Hey Cerb someone told me about this iron chef type sushi place out your way in Walnut Grove. I was told they make some great creations. Damn I wish I remembered the name.

Same. Thanks for the tip. I know Tojos but the Eatery is new to me. Have you tried any of the izakaya places? Guu is pretty decent.

Let me know if you do, I grew up in Walnut Grove and live in Willowbrook now, and of all the sushi places I've eaten at I've never seen or heard of one like this.

The Eatery is a bit different, live music, bar, VERY modern theme, and the most unique menu I have ever seen. I haven't tried any of the izakaya places, I don't get down town enough to try them all out.

I recently learned how to make my own, so going out for sushi has reduced in frequency.

Including flash-freezing the fish, or how do you do it?

I buy the fish frozen from one of the Asian supermarkets locally, H-Mart is closest. You can buy 10 times the amount of fish you get in sushi at a restaurant for the same price frozen in a block.
