Text from my ex what do you guys think?

Me and my ex have been back In contact ( well never really gone no contact). We have been apart for 10 months. He has a girlfriend and he knows I'm seeing someone (he seems relaxed about this). We were sending texts today and talking about us and he sent this text. Is this saying basically there is no chance. I mean if he used to see a future but mow doesn't this must be a hopeless situation. What does everyone think? Text nOw following :

To be honest Sarah I haven't completely lost my feelings for you. I just feel we wouldn't work long term and like you said what's the point of being with someone if you don't see a future, your the best girlfriend I've ever had and even to this day we get on so well and know and understand one another. I may, in the future, regret not fighting for us but I have to do what I feel right. Even tho I love seeing and hanging out with you. I hope you understand xxx

Oh and also just to say I'm not leading the man I'm seeing on. This conversation was from us saying it's nice we can be friends etc. I had to move on and will see where it goes
