The 3 month salary thing was a marketing tool made up by the diamond industry

I'd question the judgement of any woman who expected a ring the value of 3 months salary , let alone marry one. That's the cost of a new car for the avg American salary

I'd never heard about the 3 month salary thing. Sounds utterly insane.

After reading your first sentence, I thought to myself, "I'd rather buy her a BMW." After reading your last sentence, I chuckled.

Instead of 10-15k for a ring, invest the money and see where it gets you come retirement time

Me and my wife spent $750 total.....she's so awesome!!!!

This is not intended for the OP but more a point of interest. I don't find that ring at all attractive.

Here's one that I like the look of (though I generally don't wear rings), and a lot less costly. Its a blue topaz for those interested. The blue ones:

"Vintage-banging hotness." is awesome looking ring. Wish I knew a girl who is worth it.

Like many others here have said, the ring symbolizes the relationship and if the relationship is a good one, then you have nothing to worry about.

Are you getting any sort of treatment for your anxiety? It's not normal for you to be losing sleep over this and as another poster suggested, your boyfriend must have the patience of a saint. You're lucky he even wants to marry you, let alone squabbling over a ring. I hope this doesn't go in one ear/out the other. You are focusing on something very petty - no doubt the ring you have is gorgeous. But, it's JUST a ring - what matters is the meaning you attach to it.

If your partner has told you "Look, we spent ages looking for a ring, finally decided on one and I do not want to sell this at 1/2 the price so be happy with what you have", then I would heed his advice and treat is a kind of warning...you don't want him changing his mind and starting to think that you're a basket case that he should not commit to.
