I fail to see why I should feel sympathy for a creature which would otherwise fill its day eating another, smaller creatures stomach while it is still alive.

I do not believe American society has much empathy. For all of its wealth and power it is not very generous to its weaker citizens.

Why should we be? Where would be the motivation for them to pull themselves up if everyone just hands stuff over?

Yesterday when my gf and I were returning from my friend's birthday party through the city we saw something that caught our attention. It being a Saturday night, a lot of homeless and poor people came out onto the already overcrowded streets asking for help. Instead of asking them to step aside it was endearing to see a lot of people try to offer them support.

This one guy wearing designer clothes came out from a club with his friends, he saw this homeless guy seating on the ground. He came up to him, shook his hand and seat down next to him. He started talking to him like he would to a friend, asking him about how things are going, I remember hearing something along the lines "I haven't seen you here since Tuesday, I hope everything is okay". Then I saw the look of happiness on the homeless guy's face that he has someone out there who cares about him, that not all people are indifferent and cold. Sometimes it's not about money, but about attitude. There is a lot of resentment for these people out there, but in the end if we feed that resentment we ultimately have to ask ourselves what kind of people are we if we look down at the less fortunate.

Hippos are feared because they run faster than you can.

But really, I'd vote for the rhinoceros.

Ermmm...I'm not sure somebody's comment on American world politics really proves your point about an Aussie and Englishman's disagreement on an ancient culture's treatment of animals

    Missionaries. ^^

Anyway, I don't resent the poor and homeless, unless they are my patient in the hospital and the emergency room staff didn't get a chance to bathe them.

Back on topic: I am going to miss these stupid thread BoredGeorge started that ended up with more responses than I ever would have thought possible.

So what did we decide here about a bear and a tiger?

Frasbee the Grizzly ate George the Tiger. No contest, really.

    Or in doubt,
