She said she looks like a total skank, not that she is... there's a difference.

LOL I meet tons of interesting people, and making judgments based on their appearance is an important part of my job. How old are you?
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

Aren't you working in the healthcare sector? I reckon it's a tad different to judge physical ailments based on appearances as opposed to judging personalities.

I'm not talking about physical ailments. I'm talking about safety risk. We get lots of psych patients and prisoners, and people do tend to have a look, though of course not ALWAYS.

dewilliams, unfortunately I am a lot older than you. the reason I asked about your age is that my kid tries that "don't judge a book by it's cover" line with me, and it never works, but I remember thinking the same thing when I was young.

Well truly you shouldn't....I was raised in a very open minded home by liberal hippie parents so I was always raised to accept all people regardless of appearance....as I said I do get profiled quite a bit because of my appearance...I can't make it outta wal-mart without them checking my receipt at the door and I'm not a thief....but every time I leave I get checked....and while they say they do it to everybody I have watched people go in front of me and not be checked....mom knows some of the ladies that work there in the morning and they admitted that the old ladies at the door profile people...all I'm saying is if you only see what a person looks like you miss who they are.

On a side note my gf got pulled over doing 45 in a 25 and all the officer said was "try and watch your speed"...not ticket...I was sittin in the passenger seat and I was drunk as shit...I wreaked of alcohol she was sober but he didn't even check her at all and the whole car smelled like it cause she had spilt a shot in my lap that night.

I got pulled over one time for speeding and they searched my car for drugs...they claimed they had reports of a car fitting that description transporting dope....and after they found noting...I still got a ticket and I was only going 11 miles over the speed limit not 20....horseshit!

People will always judge other people for their looks, like it or not. Looks are the first impression you get of people almost always... you just have to learn to not close to them only because of that.

That's why it's always better to look like a nice innocent guy

I'm not saying you can't learn anything about a person by their appearance...but that isn't it and you should withhold judgment until you meet them....I mean to just look at a woman and go "she looks like a skank"...your throwing judgment on her character without knowing anything truly about her other than what she looks like.

I mean the same could be said about Lady Gaga...I'm not a big fan of her music but I do appreciate her from an artistic standpoint...she is her own person....but to judge her by her appearance you would miss that.

As for looking like a nice innocent guy...it isn't as easy to appear as purist as some....its not in my nature to smile for no reason and I have to rock the beard and mustache cause I look to pretty without it....I have exceptionally broad shoulders with my 5'9 height...my shoulders are 54 inches while my waist is 36....I just look far more imposing that I am and I've been this size since about 13....its just how I'm built...I suppose I could dress more Beaver Cleaver but I also wanta keep my straight card.

So you are telling me you never see someone and just by their looks think "I should be careful with this one"?
I'm relatively big, I haven't been measured in like 4 years, but last time I was measured I was more or less like you describe.. But I have innocent kid face, so if I smile or something people think me harmless.

Ya know if I saw a guy walking around with K.K.K. tattooed on his forehead then chances are I wouldn't approach him but to just look at somebody with a bunch of tats that aren't offensive or display racist tendencies then no I don't get concerned about people based on their appearance.

I suppose I just hope for the best in people....and ya know why I don't worry about the people that look like they might be rough or hurt me? Cause a lot of times its always the ones that don't look like they would do anything that actually would....you always hear it..."oh he was always so nice, kept to himself, I didn't know he kept bodies in his freezer."...appearances mean nothing....I mean other than Charles Manson all the serial killers I can think of look like normal nice guys with an "innocent face."

John Wayne Gacy looked like a nice trustworthy guy....if your not familiar read what he did....John Wayne Gacy - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Appearances are useless outside of understanding a persons tastes in life...ie. clothing style.

Well, I have nothing against tattoos unless they are Nazi tattoos and such, don't get me wrong. It's really more than looks, but you can see how people behave and their body language from the distance, even though that doesn't keep me from letting them approach me or anything it just makes me be careful with certain people and I am usually right about them...

And that guy doesn't look like a nice guy to me at all.. I'd have all my shields up just by looking at him.

You are far to paranoid....my point is it doesn't matter what you look like...nice and normal looking people can be just as dangerous if not more so then those who look like they might be....appearances truly are worthless in judging a persons character.

I agree, really.. but it's inevitable for most people... I just try to not do any false moves despite my paranoia.

Yes I should. Violence against nurses is a not-uncommon reality, and we are actually trained to make judgments based on appearance to keep ourselves safe.

You make judgments about people based on looks, too - everyone does, unless they are blind.

And John Wayne Gacy looks like a child molester.
