yes, but you are talking about MALE teachers. He was talking about females. While I am sure it happens, I don't think it is anywhere NEAR as prevalent.

I'm inclined to agree. At least the data that is out there about pedophiles supports this. There's a mayo clinic report from 2009 that discusses these stats and while the percentage of female pedophiles to male is now thought to be larger than the 1% originally estimated, I can't see that number being so wrong it completely flips the gender bias.

Of course, teachers (and other professionals) might be treated different statistically but I can't find any numbers to support this.

Indi--I read the report. One big problem is that this is only looking at documented pedophiles. The fact is that boys (and later men) are very unlikely to report incidences of abuse or harassment. You have to take the "known" cases and divide them by the estimated rate of reporting...the actual likely number of women who abuse boys grows substantially. The age at which boys are most likely to be abused--age 4. How likely are they to report at that age? Not likely.

According to the Children's Bureau (US HHS) the person most likely to abuse a child of any type...the Mother, Acting Alone. This is a government statistic.

Another undiscussed issue, swept under the rug, is the prevalence of single mothers and stepmother who molest their sons or stepsons. A problem that is sometimes stuffed into the general abuse category rather than made public.

I recently underwent some major surgery, and under the influence of whatever happy juice they were feeding me in that tube, as I was wheeled into the operating room, and I saw all that shiny, highly advanced equipment, I couldn't help myself but blurt out, "Hey! Do you have the machine that goes 'Ping?'"

Women are generally more likely to actually provide care for young children, and so would have greater access. I want a link to the "fact" that female high school teachers abuse their male students in greater numbers than their male counterparts.

I'm getting married next month. We're both happy about it. We probably don't have to, but my man is a bit of a romantic, and there are financial benefits to it.

Also, if we have children, I don't want to be that hippie mom that has a different last name than my kids. I would like to create an outwardly cohesive family unit.
