Actually, some kids die, or stop breathing during the procedure long enough to endure brain damage. Obviously, this is rare in the states (and much more common in africa with tribal circumcisions and such) but there are plenty of other complications that are more common than you'd think, and that can leave men feeling violated and unwhole as adults, cause permanent scarring, etc.
The point is, it isn't medically necessary, so there's no reason not to let the person decide themselves.
Well then imagine for a second that you weren't circumcised, and that there is no way you can ever be circumcised. You'd be pretty miffed that your parents took that choice from you, right? well that's exactly how some circumcised men feel.
since you can always go form uncut to cut but not the other way, it makes sense to leave the choice up to the person- you're simply lucky that you agree with the choice that was made for you.
You could steal someone else's.
By your logic you'd have to wait until someone was of sound mind to decide if they wanted to be circumcised which likely would be 18 years old. At 18 getting the tip of your dick lopped off is going to be a hell of lot more painful and risky than as a baby. It's like chicken pox, better to get it as a kid than as an adult.
People are bastard coated bastards with bastard filling
wrong. anaesthetic is dangerous in infants, so it is often not used, or not used effectively (some arguing that it can cause even more pain than the procedure itself), or used too much with fatal effects. Adults circumcision however can be done with simple local anaesthetic.
edit: Also, naturally the foreskin separates from the glans sometime between birth and 18. usually tho I believe it is around 5 or so, not sure there are studies on that specifically =P
anyway, ripping the foreskin from the glans when it is still fused together as it is in an infant, can cause damage to the glans. It can leave skin tags and other scarring. It is hard to know how the boys penis will grow as he gets older, so in some cases too much skin is taken that the guy's scrotum gets sucked up when he gets an adult erection, or his erection is painful because there isn't enough skin- actually, some say it can even shorten the penis, and make it curve, depending how it develops. Whereas in adult circumcision, you're not risking many of those unknown factors.

an adult can be given painkillers without much risk. Most importantly though, they know what's going on, so even if they do feel pain, they know they chose it, they know it will pass, they know it will lead to what they wanted. This is COMPLETELY different to being strapped down, having it done without anaesthetic and not being able to understand any of it. Some research suggests this causes problems with bonding and breastfeeding. Seriously, if you're getting it as an adult, that's not gonna be a problem or is it?
"I have problems sucking my mother's tits and bonding because I had excess skin cut off of my dick and now it looks cleaner."
What kind of pussy would say that? ****, don't even answer that. Just bring them before me so I can beat the shit out of them--free of charge.
don't listen to her lil; I actually wrote 4,896 words before you posted that.
well then, evidence, please! No it's not *exactly* the same, it couldn't possibly be. However, removing erogenous tissue from genitals is comparable no matter what gender it is cut off from. The frenulum and foreskin are loaded with specialised nerves much like the clit. Removal of erogenous tissue decreases sensitivity and sexual function in females, yet everyone is in denial about the fact that it does the same for guys. That isn't just the most logical conclusion, it is supported in research, fact and experience.
EDIT: "A typical western medical circumcision results in the loss of approximately 1/2 of the total surface area of the penis and between 50 and 80% or more of its erogenous sexual nerves." references : 8, 9, 10
sounds equivalent enough to me.
