I've had many a big crush, and I wish I could tell her that the guy is NEVER what you thought he was. The best example is my high school boyfriend. He literally took my breath away at the beginning of junior year. He was the most perfect creature to ever walk the earth- an angel among mortals, incandescent...

then I dated him for two years, Boy, does familiarity breed contempt. While I could still recognize that he was very good-looking, he eventually lost all appeal because he turned out to be, sadly, merely human, and a profoundly flawed human at that, probably owing to the fact that his personality had never fully developed since he was able to get by on his looks.

The guy in that shop is not at all what she thinks he is. She's projecting a fantasy all over him, and it's really compelling, but getting to know him better would only lead to disappointment.

He was an emotional black hole, full of insecurities that resulted in any number of annoying behaviors, from telling me all about what other girls he thought were attractive ad nauseum to needling me until I named another guy I found attractive and then becoming stalkerishly obsessed with that guy, having nightmares about him, wanting to kick his ass, etc.

He would call me at ridiculous hours to make sure I was home. He would drive by the ice-cream shop I worked in to make sure I was really working. He tried to isolate me from my friends. He hated my male friends with Demonic passion.

Bla, bla, bla. He was a pain in the ass.

The point is, I couldn't see any of this from the beginning. I just had a massive crush on him. I brought all of this upon myself by being confident enough to talk to him about it. Doh!

Tell her what Giga said (basically that the grass is always greener) & that she has a fine BF. If she still decides to pursue this other fellow, well, that's up to her. At that point Fras' post will apply and whatever comes of that action.

BTW, the guy's only 'crime' is being good looking. So? Mbe he's her dreammate, who knows? Not all good looking fellas are 'playas' either, just like not all beautiful women are vamps. FWIW.
