Maybe the reason he's become so distant is that you pretty much put told him that there was no hope for the two of you. Maybe before that he might have thought something would happen. What's the big deal anyway? It's only 7 years.
Seems like you had someone who was always there for you but you pushed him away.

Lisa told Dave (or at least Dave thinks she told him):

Doubt it. At least if you mean that Lisa will continue to float from one relationship to another and keep Dave on the side. He seems to have had enough of that.
The only hope is for Lisa to have a talk with Dave about their friendship and find out what he wants. If he does want a relationship, Lisa also needs to be able to stop caring what her family would think more than she cares about what Dave wants.

This sounds like a movie script. Best friend/soul mate was beside the leading lady but she never thought of him as anything but a side dish. Now most movies end with the souls mates together, but most guys aren't that patient.
