    Suzhou River

We have a lot of Asians here, so I figured some have seen this movie. What did you think about it?

I remember a lot of people talking about Memoirs of a Geisha back in high school, it was apparently a really popular book. Hope the movie will live up to the novels success.

RSK----Suzhou River? Never heard of it.

Illusional/ZekkTStrife----Why why why are they using chinese actresses to play Japanese roles. It's madness. Like there aren't enough Japanese actresses around.

That's not as bad as CHRISTIAN SLATER playing the role of Lucky Luciano in whatever was the name of that movie... Christian Slater... playin the role of the man who pretty much organized the mafia here in the U.S.

Didn't make much sense to me either. It may have just been a way to get asian actresses that western audiences may recognize (from Crouching Tiger, House of Flying Daggers, etc.) since Zhang Ziyi has been in quite a few major productions here in the states. But then again I was kinda taken aback that it's gonna be in english too. Long live subtitles!!

i will admit that using a chinese actress to play a japanese geisha doesn't make sense to me. however, the last samurai used all japanese actors, thus living up to it's authenticity.

Tone----Sometimes you wonder what goes through the casting agent's mind. What on earth were they thinking....

ZekkTStrife/Illusional-----Yes, Zhang Ziyi's name is probably the draw, to pull in the crowds. Still, eventhough I think Zhang's a great actress, and hey I should support my fellow chinese, the choice of choosing a Chinese to play a Geisha is like choosing a Japanese to play the Empress Dowager of China.

    Sacrilege :-((

not only was it hilarious, it was deep too, well, for me anyway. the scene towards the end, with the deaf girl and him, by the movie poster was INCREDIBLE. a few of the songs from the soundrack were also great.

Yes I know exactly what you mean... I felt "touched" at the end too.
