GF wants to work at adult book store...

My GF told me today that she is planning on working at an adult bookstore not too far away from where I work. I have many other issues regarding her that I'm trying to deal w/ concerning our relationship and our future (we've only been together a little over 2 months) and this just seems to be too much to deal with. Plus, she's very attractive and kinda flirty, which in this industry wouldn't be the greatest idea unless you want to be slutty.

I care about her but I think she's taking the easy way out and for $8/hr....geez. I personally think porn is okay but WORKING in the porn industry (in any capacity - a porn store isn't exactly Victoria's Secret) is, too me, disgusting. What if I start viewing her as disgusting? I'm almost positive that'll happen. Plus, what if some sleezeballs try to do something to her there or her bosses force her to do things she wouldn't have to do in normal jobs???

It's just weird, and I'm thinking about breaking up w/ her over this.

If you were in my shoes, what would YOU do?

First of all, I doubt her boss will force her to do anything bad. I mean mainly she will be stocking the porn store and ringing up customers. Its not like people are gonna be like, "How much for 30 min in the back room with you?"

I would be more concerned if she was working in a bar or bartending in a strip joint.

If it bothers you that much, why not talk to her about it? If you have and she still wants to do this, then theres not much you can do. Either you can deal with it and your insecurities with her working there, or you can end things now.

I guess a better question would be:

Would you want your significant other working in a porn shop and if so, would you be proud of him/her and be comfortable telling other people what he/she does?

    Um, no.

    But thats just me.

I'm sure though if I told friends that my bf worked in one of those stores, they would be asking about a discount. LOL.

I just think there are plenty of other ways to make money and be proud of it in my humble opinion. But, I don't judge people who do have jobs in porn stores. It's their choice.

Two months is not a long time together. Your still getting to know her, and obviously you two have differences.

Like I said, If you can't deal with it, then don't.

No, I wouldn't. However, this isn't about us - it's about YOU. Do YOU want you significant other working in a porn shop, and are YOU comfortable with telling people what she does for a living? If the answer is no, then this isn't the girl for you.

You are allowed to have your own set of standards, separate from hers, and if they don't match, there is no point in trying to force it.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

As for your concern with them wanting to **** her, look at it this way.... People in the porn business really take their business seriously. They don't **** for fun. To them, ****ing is work. Her boss won't want to **** her, you can be sure of that.

Though I'd like my significant other's career goals to be higher than working in a shop, as long as they were just working in the shop - that is, stocking shelves, selling stuff, etc - I wouldn't mind. I wouldn't be particularly proud of anybody for working in a shop selling stuff, but I wouldn't mind. In fact, I'd get a few ideas.. but nevermind me! as everyone has said, it is your answer to that question that counts and though I may think it sounds kind of shallow, if you feel it's not worth putting up with, that's your choice.

Actually, that sounds like fun, for a while at least.

I've never worked in an adult book store. I've never even been in an adult book store. I'm pretty sure, though, that adult bookstores are not frequented by the hot-lifeguard-fresh-from-the-beach type. More like the old-man-in-a-trenchcoat type.

    You have control issues.

as somebody who reads some adult fiction, yup, it does sound like fun - for a while.. then the novelty would wear off and it'd just be boring old alphabetising/sorting books.
