    Chat Programs

Is there a chat program for Linux that allows the user to have all their friends with MSN and AIM accounts on it at once?

I just ordered Mandriva (Discovery 2007), setting up a partition, and getting all the software I will be using. I am aware that it comes with a chat program, but I don't know anything about it.

    A) Don't use Mandriva. It ****ing sucks.

    B) Yes. GAIM works fine, but I suggest GAIM 2.0. The only problem with GAIM 2 is that you have to compile it, and I don't think you're emotionally ready to do that yet.

    C) X-Chat is beautiful for IRC, if you even know what the hell IRC is.

    D) This was the PERFECT forum to post this on, considering you're on another forum that specializes in UNIX and hacking. Are you sure you want to try to run Linux?

a I just don't get it. What sucks about it?

    b What about 'Kopete'?

c Internet relay chat. * I used to have MIRC; But I admit, I don't know much about IRC.

    d. It would have probably been better to post this on the *other* forum, and maybe I will, just to help increase its size and popularity.

Ofcourse I want to run Linux; I am sick of Winblows. I want to try something new, and Mandriva sounds like something good to dick around with, for the small price of $45.00

The thought that you paid for Linux sickens the living shit out of me. All other distros (maybe 1 or 2 exceptions) are FREE!

The point of Linux is so that everything can follow under the GNU/GPL license and remain open source, which means FREE! OpenOffice is free, XGL is free, the ****ing operating system is free.... The people that charge for Linux are disgraceful to the UNIX community in general, and buying it is even worse.

Funny you made a French face; Mandriva's company is French, and I bought it off of their site. You should be pleasured.

Why did I buy it? Because I'm too lazy to download an ISO burner, the ISO(dialup connection, remember. I won't risk having to re-download something a million times on a 6% WiFi signal) and I want the disk prepared for me.

I was looking at distros, and Redhat goes as high as $2000, and that is just UNREAL.

I do understand, however, that it is a disgrace to sell something that was mean to be entirely free. The only reason I bought it, was to have it on disk.

Lazy, so you spend $45? Right.

I don't know what part of your ass you pull $2,000 from. Go to Google, type in "red hat." First thing that comes up: "The Open Source Leader" == HOLY SHIT! OPEN SOURCE LOL! Click it, you find Red Hat's "Enterprise Edition," IE servers. $179 for a server OS at i686 if needed--not bad. Then, you get to Fedora. Fedora = free. Done.

LOLZ That's where I went, and I skimmed through it, noticed the $2000 red hat server. But I'm not even interested in a server.

I went to the Fedora one, and I found a bunch of mirrors and shit. I would still have to download it! *sob sob*

That's not just the OS, that's more shit than anybody could ever need. In other words, for assholes.

Linux is filled with an unlimited amount of information, which is why asking for help is rather frowned upon in the development world and especially when it comes to Linux.

This is something I have yet to understand, as I do not even have Linux available to me, yet.

Heh, this is a fun way to get into programming.

You'll surprise me if you get decent with programming.

My inspiration comes from want, desire, and ambition. I don't want to even **** with XP, but there are things I absolutely hate, and that I would change. Oh... I did **** with my own theme; I made my own theme for XP, and I popped in a script that allows me to toggle the visibility of the recycle bin on my desktop, but that is it.

I'm sure there will be things in Mandriva that I will absolutely hate, and change right away.

Want to become truly elite? When Linux starts up, hit CTRL + ALT + BACKSPACE.

UNIX. Learn UNIX. Hit "nano" for notepad, "naim" for AIM, "lynx" for your browser, and "sudo reboot" to bitch about senseless bullshit. It rules.

    Learn the VIM.

Look it up. In fact, look EVERYTHING up. Have a question? **** asking people. Use Google. Google is your best friend with anything GPL/Open Source/Linux/Development-related.

That's what I do, when I don't know something. Unless I can't find what I am looking for. That's when I ask people. But not now; I am going to roll into bed.
