    Generally, like this:

Elementary - grades 1-6, Kindergarten is optional, but the vast majority attend

Jr High (or middle school) - grades 7-8

    High School - grades 9-12

College is the equivelent of the first 2 years of university.

University is 4 years (if you carry enough units)

Graduate school - 2-5 years, depending on major.
Relax... I'll need some information first. Just the basic facts - can you show me where it hurts?

Ya, its where you get to go to a place called a school and fool around for about 8 hours, and then go home and repeat as needed.

Preschool, Kindergarten, Grades 1-6, Junior High School (grades 7 and 8), High school, (grades 9-12). College is completely optional. College (assuming one is aiming for a degree) can be as short as 2 years (Associative's Degree) 4 years (Bachelor's Degree) 6 years (Master's Degree) and as long as 8 years or more (Doctoral Degree)

The higher the education, the more qualified (and higher the chance) a person is to get a job in the United States.

In college, there are also many different things you can study, or specialize in.

hrmm... i knew that preschool was optional, but i didn't think that kindergarden was optional. seemingly most children also start around the age of 3-4 years old. hahaha on the other end, people can finish or rather get their high school diploma at many different ages.
