Some people are like slinkies... they don't really have a purpose, but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

screenshot, and then use photoshop/gimp/mspaint to crop it.

i wonder what loveadmin looks like in real life...

    or GIF

i only use png if i want transparency... sometimes if you save it as a jpeg the file will be a lot smaller, however it will lose quality bigtime.

correct in a certain aspect. i am a pixel artist, and i work with png and gif format often.

gif also has a lossless compression algorithm. the only real difference between png and gif that i have noticed is transparency option? also, you can have animated gifs but not animated pngs. is there something i am missing?

I do know however that I saved the cropped bitmap & in both gif & png formats, and the png ended up smaller with no dithering, while the gif end up larger with noticeable dithering. Dunno what exactly the difference was; I can only say that the same cropped, unchanged bitmap file was used for both.
i guess it depends on what program you're using. gif becomes dithered in mspaint by default. but i use photoshop and gimp, which do not do any dithering unless you select that option.

altogether filesize depends on the image size and number of colors. i recommend you atleast get gimp because it gives you a few options oh and it's open source.

iknow what you mean with photoshop... gimp only takes about 5 seconds to load completely even on an older machine. it's easy to install too, just something to think about. it's easier to use than mspaint, i find, so i use gimp more often. i don't even use windows other than vergeC development, and photoshop autoboots on startup on my work ibook.

heh, whatever suits you. i've just become so used to gimp and photoshop that i can rip up a screenshot much faster than i would with paint.
