    It's a shame.

A shame that basically these days there can't be a music video without showing chicks and guys half naked. It's like it isn't about the music anymore, all they care about is producing something that they know will sell to young people to make a quid.

Unless you listen to classical or grindcore metal, there is a high chance. I wasn't saying all music anyway, just a high majority of music videos show it.

That's the case with everything. Music, movies, television, videogames... It is a real shame. But people gobble it up. Look at it this way: it takes a simple mind to not only stomach but actually enjoy mainstream entertainment. You must have a decent head on your shoulders if you can see it for the bullcrap it really is.

They do it because it sells, but the sadest part is, it sells because people want it. There's a real and genuine demand for it from the masses. This is what people, the target audience at which these clips are aimed at want and thus the video directors cater to them.

If you think of it from another perpective, would you really want to see ugly chicks in a music video? Or just fixate on something aethetically pleasing?

Personally I don't stomach pop music easily and my genre Heavy Metal and Hard Rock have other themes that make you think which is why I ussually stock up on those music videos. Once upon a time I saw a few Black Metal video clips selling girls in the same way as pop clips do and I was surprised. And then I thought isn't it ironic? Here are bands which sing about Satan and Sex and yet we get surprised when they put provocatively dressed girls in their clips while pop music does it all the time. Which one is more evil?

What really pisses me off most of all is the fact that most actors and singers are selected for their looks and marketability. Talent comes second. Let's face it, quite often the best actors and musicians are butt ugly. But Shakira waves her ass around and barely covers her tits, so **** it. Have her repeat lines over and over again in a studio and synthesize her voice until the result is aurally tolerable.

ye it's true that sex is everywhere and sex sells, but i guess i give into my inner child a lot and watch a lot of movies that have nothing to do with sex. i watched the parent trap tonight and loved it! it makes me all happy and gooey.

i guess you have to learn to switch off to these things. i always mute the tv when the adverts come on, i avoid all that stuff when i can.

I completely agree. The problem is the society we live in. The majority of people would rather watch a sexy ass waved around (something they can identify with on a primal level) than see or listen to a beautiful performance from someone less fortunate in a looks department. It's degradation and decadence we live in, Sodom and Gamora and I bet it's only going to get worse.

I love beautiful women. I love seeing them wave their asses. But women are not to enjoyed visually. I want to enjoy them with every sense at my disposal. I want to drag my fingertips along every curve. I want to explore every crevice (heheh), I want to taste her lips on mine, take her budding nipple between my teeth. I want to bury my face against her neck and breathe in her scent... Sodom and Gamora are fine by me. What this world needs is more sex. Just not the cheapened crap we see in music videos and movies. And certainly not at the detriment of real skill and expertise. Let beautiful women dance tastefully, but let skilled musicians handle the singing.

"You might very well say, 'I get what I like' and 'I like what I get' are one and the same"-The Mad Hatter from Alice in Wonderland (or something)

Do people really want it though? Most people dislike it, it sells because people notice the music videos more and give the song the associations that the marketeers want, but few people maintain an interest in it and I doubt anyone would complain if it was gone. It's mainly people who aren't that interested in music and don't know anything else, or kids who haven't discovered anything else yet. They aren't necassarilly bands I like, but the most successful acts-for example Bruce Springsteen, U2, Radiohead even-are built on more than that.
