Seriously, it might be that the "not beautiful" are compensating through exercise and trying to make the most of their assets. The "hotter" girls are often unappreciative of how difficult it is to stay in shape and eventually fade because they don't take care of themselves.

I don't really think it's so easy. First it depends on how you define beauty!
Beutiful is a girl that has a beautiful face and a beautiful body. For me the face is more important, for some guys the body is more important.
I think the whole woman just needs to be interesting and beautiful to me, I must like the package. I don't want a girl with a super beautiful face but 150 kg, nor do I want a girl with a super hot body and an ugly face!
The combination must be good and must fit what I think is beautiful.
Just my thoughts.

I would say that the "girl next door" is more attractive than the girl caked in make-up and strutting through a club in a miniskirt. I'm guessing maybe that's what the OP was trying to say.
