Post count going backwards?

I don't really care about post count, so you can take them all away for all I care. I'm just wondering, how is it seemingly going backwards? Any information?

if it were regressing, then a moderator or the thread starter deleted a thread. when a thread gets deleted, all the posts in that thread are also lost, and everyone's posts count drops.
