lol no, I wouldn't MAKE explosives. That would, in general, be very stupid and needlessly dangerous, depending on the explosive. It's more about just knowing the chemistry and stuff. It's actually rewarding to design a synthesis considered feasible that leads to a funky end product that goes boom. In my organic chemsitry classes we discussed a couple such syntheses

Either way, I like any 'beautiful' synthesis in general, regardless of the end product. That's half of what you do in organic chemistry
