Don't forget the corruption in all levels of government and the funding of schools that aren't required to teach things like evolution and sex ed.

oh yeah i forgot them. thanks giga! you're in the spirit of the holiday!
we also forgot to mention the huge paychecks we give to politicians to come up with laws which cost us even more money!!!

It is more important for schools to teach math than evolution or sex ed

Much less actually teach kids to write. Can you believe that learning script (cursive) is actually *optional* now?
May as well start burning books now. Give everyone happy pills and nevermind pesky thinking.

God Miso, the IRS loves people like you.
I know you've probably heard this before, but you need to put away money into a tax-sheltered investment. IRAs? I think that's the US equivalent to our RRSPs. Basically, calc how much you need to contribute to reduce your tax owing to zero. If you can afford more, then you can get a refund back & put that into something else. Either a lump sum payment to your mortgage, or whatever you can use.
Don't give the gov't money for nothing, babe. They get plenty already.

I plug my money into every single tax-deductible thing I can think of. I even opened my trading account in a tax-free account (something our gov't just introduced in 2009) so that any gains I make I don't pay ANY tax on. Love it.

please pm with more information on this. i am completely willing to hide my money away from them whether legal or not.

Hey, Blue, our FP just told us about these accounts! Exciting. The down side is that the contribution isn't tax-deductable, so unless your're maxed, check that its best for you. We already have a self-directed RRSP acct for trading but that other is great for saving up for toys (and retirement).

No, the contribution isn't deductible, but I already have RRSP's set up and this was money just sitting in a regular savings account. The tax-free account also has a higher interest rate than standard savings account, so even just moving it from regular savings to tax-free savings means MORE interest. Interest you don't pay tax on.
I've got money tied up in some stock that is poised to do quite well.......so that couple of thousand (or more?) that I could potentially make is pretty much free. No capital gains even if I pull the profits out of that account to use for 'toys'.
