Wow that sounds tough Lana. I understand your loneliness, but is he the only guy you could get to know right now? Is there a chance you could invite him for a chat coffee elsewhere away from the prying eyes of your neighbour? You also probably don't know the full extent of their past/current involvement so it could be kind of awkward especially if they are still involved.
Sounds like you need to regain some self confidence after your difficult past, maybe trying to get out in general and meeting people of both sexes might be easier. At least you won't be under your neighbours scrutiny.

Thanks for the ideas. I don't know his surname or email address. I tried to find a phone number of the small business he's got, without luck so far. That's what makes it so hard to find the way forward.

I need to come up with a more crufty plot.
