what is zenned out?
Zenned out is a term used in martial arts philosophy. It is basically achieving a state of mind where you think of the end result of a process and achieve it without actually thinking of the steps you took to get there. It feels like something else has taken over your body, you aren't even aware of what is happening. A very eerie experience. I've felt it a couple of times, and had no control over it. Very eerie!

so how do you do it? do you need to have training
Well apparently martial arts training improves your control over it and how easily you can access it (don't ask me which one, cause martial arts is not something that I was ever interested in). But basically how it occurred to me was that I wanted something so much that I was thinking about the result so intently that without even realising it I made it happen.

Its also called runners (somthing). It happens when you start to tone out everything else around you and focus on only what you are doing. If you have ever seen a football player run down the field and dogde everyone that comes at him it is likely that he was having that happen. Certian things can trigger it to. I find that music can help to have it happen to me, but only music that I enjoy.
An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind.
Good Call! The music would make sense, and the sport too, as it is accessing the right side of the brain which is creative and imaginative. I used to get that same feeling with playing pool and snooker (basketball too, ie the zone). A level of concentration where you are so focussed on what you want that everything up to that point is blocked out. It's far more unnerving when it happens unexpectedly, where you haven't been trained to that point.

i do it all the time - i have no training, but i can control it perfectly. Everything i do is perfect. I have complete over my mind and all states it can be in. I really dont talk about this much with people because they just think i need to seek "professional help", but i dont need help - i am in total control of my body, mind, and spirit.
I can have out of body experiences whenever I feel like it. I can meditate. I can do that "zen" thing your talking about (i call it 'zone'). I can communicate with God, not as prayers, but as actualy conversations. I can walk thru walls (when i am out of body of course). I can do anything I want to do physically (i.e., sport wise, running, lifting, etc etc). All kinds of crap become possible when you become one with yourself and are at true inner peace with your mind and soul.
I've known one other person besides myself that can do this, but I know many of us exist. He is my ex's brother (the gay one) - i remember us having many conversations with out saying words - we could have out of body experiences and go to other places then where we were. We meditated together many times. He is just as powerful as me, if not more (not muscle wise, but i am talking true power, from within - I can lift a car off the ground, but yet i have no muscles).
But yeah - i know what your talking about. Its the greatest feeling in the world. But it seems you have not done all the things that I have mentioned with it. Its all done the same way, you just have to know how to control it.
And if anyone thinks i need to go seek professional help - think it all you will, but please dont say it. i am so tired of people telling me that. Open your eyes to the Real and stop living in this fantasy world that the government and media have created. Corruption will kill us all.
Uhhh can you film yourself lifting a car up with your mind? sounds pretty cool.Originally Posted by BillyGalbreath

And by the way, Zen comes from Buddhist philosophy, it has nothing to do with martial arts trainings. Also, don't lump all martial arts together like they all teach you to do yoga or something, they are very diverse and cannot be grouped like that.
I gave you my heart
I gave you my soul

As I said, I'm no expert in zen, but Billy's ideas (well some of them anyway) aren't so far fetched. The Fighting Monks in Tibet use zen powers to do 'impossible' shit all the time. For instance, they can wrap wet sheets around their bodies, go outside and sit in the snow and allow their bodyheat to dry the sheets. Abosolutley insane, but you've got to admit that that is some party trick.
