When she cooks stuff I don't like.

So she's been on this kick on cooking these weird recipes out of this vegetarian recipe book. And the majority of the recipes have been failures. I don't hide my distaste.

We had a short discussion about using a different cook book since neither of us were really fond of those recipes.

So she makes this apple pie tonight, and I was a little more optimistic about it.

She said she really liked it, and so I bite into it, and my face instantly contorts.

I couldn't figure out what it was. The apples on top were sour, but like, unreasonably sour for sour apples. It tasted like an orange peel or something.

So mention this and she tells me there's lemon juice on those apples.

But the rest of the pie taste a bit off too, and turns out the crust has lemon shavings baked into it.

    Ugh, and ugh.

She doesn't like super sweet stuff, and I do.

In fact, I'd say there's a pretty big contrast in our taste in food.

Now she told me that sometimes I should just say "mmm, thanks for cooking this from scratch". And while I express my appreciation, I won't care enough to force myself to eat something I don't like.

Yeah dude. Food tastes can be an issue. How often do you cook? I'd take that as an opportunity to eat something you do like.

BTW I had Thai cashew chicken at the new Asian place downtown here. Great stuff.

You should be happy she cooked.

Honestly, if you don't like it, keep it to yourself. It's so insulting and rude. It's not like she's a pro chef and this is her job, in which case, yeah, lambast her ass.

Try to get her to improve subtly. Maybe get involved yourself. Cooking can be surprisingly fun. Just don't be a dick about it, man.

If you want to eat well, get your own cookbook, lay it down next to hers, and tell her you're joining the cooking class. Take my word for it, cooking can be a fun, relaxing, and tasty hobby...and if nothing else you'll add a common interest to your relations with your Other.

    Its not rude.
If he doesn't like it... he shouldn't have to eat it.

No point lying & saying it tastes great - because then she'll cook it all the time!!

Naps, and time to chill out.

I do not find cooking extravagant meals relaxing, after work.

Anyway, it's not like she cooks all the time, she's just been on this kick lately.

Anything I cook I know I'll like. But once again, she's less fond of what I cook because they're often wrought with cream and pasta.

honestly i don't care if a person doesn't like my food because *i* do. it's partly the achievement and partly coz i know exactly what i am eating down to the tiniest ingredients compared to fast food. if you don't like it she shouldn't keep cooking for you. i wouldn't subject someone to something they don't like, i would let them do their own thing and i mine. that would be my view but i'm all for separation, i'm not the best at sharing. people have different tastes at the end of the day.

Instead of being critical of her efforts, why don't you buy a cookbook and mark the recipes you'd be interested in trying?

BTW - we have had this scenario in my house. I no longer cook things with my husband in mind because he eats like a child. Instead, i cook vegetarian meals (my daughter's a vegetarian) and my husband goes out to eat his kiddy food if he can't hack the vegetables.

    I love vegetables.

    But I hate bland food.

One of the things she made that was of the better variety was home made pasta sauce. But it was missing something.

    I grabbed the garlic salt.

Just a tad, and it tasted perfect.

    Awwww.
I made something that wasn't so good one time... I like criticism when it comes to my cooking because I want to improve. It was hella funny because I knew it was gross... and I made ex-fiancee eat and he lied to me and said it was good and had the runs. Inside I was cracking up but I kept saying baby you should finish it up. hahahaha and he just kept lying to protect my feelings. it was sooo cute but funny as hell.

Just tell her the type of food you would like her to cook for you next time. She put her effort into it so don't give her a hard time.

Cooking takes a long time to learn. I'm glad she's giving it a shot and I'm confident she won't let your lack of enthusiasm stop her.

She's known you're sour all along. Loves you anyway.
