Diamond grading... what about conflict diamonds?

So not to derail another thread going I'm going to start this.

I have done a lot of studying about conflict diamonds and to put it simply, I don't want one. Now how do I convey that message to a man? (ie for an engagement ring).

I know I'm not allowed to give out clue about what I do want, and I'm not. But it means a lot that my diamond be legit and not a blood diamond. How does one go about making this message clear.

And further, if I do get a ring do you ask, can you ask, what would happen if I did ask?

ban the diamonds! no, i just feel that certification is very difficult to prove therefore i'm against diamonds altogether therefore i'd prefer a different stone, altho sayin that i don't care for marriage so it's not really an issue for me.

He's seen it aknowledges it... but do you think that's enough to get the drift across? Do you think that hit far enough home that he'd inquire about a diamonds history or a store brands buying procedures?

I think that it should be easy to bring this topic up long before you get to the engagement stage. When your friends get engaged, mention to your BF (out of their earshot) "I hope they ensured it wasn't a blood diamond".

I agree with Vashti. Just know that it is a possibility before you bring it up. If he's not thinking engagement and you talk about diamonds you could scare him.

no you can literally trace them to the farm and to practically the chicken that laid the egg. you can't trace the diamond as it becomes a lot more difficult due to begin with distance to travel

We've talked about marriage, wedding, when and all that. He's not scared and knows that's where we're headed- which is why this has been on my mind.

Oh yes! I should note that I've dropped hints with an ex (he was buying A diamond not THE diamond for me) and he asked what I wanted I said a Canadian diamond I stated that I wanted it becasue it was a sure way to know if it's non-conflict (did my research) and I got a standard diamond (not Canadian), he said it was too expensive. I did not pressure him into the diamond the idea was all his own, and I still didn't get (an assured) non-conflict diamond.

So I'm not sure dropping hints gets the message across :S

Not really. Visit a farm and what, how can they prove it's organic or freerange? They can only show you a big farm and say they roam free here, yet the farm is empty. HMMMMMMMMMMM...

Girl - if you are dead set on a guilt-free stone, you must tell him, and if need be, you can tell him you'd rather have a different stone all together than a blood diamond.

your logic has none.

buy from local organic and one can literally watch how the animals are fed and looked after if one chooses to. it's a lot easier to prove than diamonds from africa unless you go to africa and dig up your own diamond.
