Okay, so we all (hopefully) know it is possible to catch an STI even by receiving oral, right?
What about kissing? Everything I read says it's very unlikely. What's the difference, though? Why am I apparently more likely to catch something through my penis than my mouth?

Seriously? B/c your mouth/GI tract has all kinds of enzymes and acid and stuff that is designed specifically to kill cooties. In fact, you've got immune cells that specifically work in your GI tract only. Never heard of the same for 'down there', in fact, in order to keep your sperm from being killed by your immune system (b/c the genetic material has been rearranged), its actually one of the few areas in your body that is what is called 'immune privileged'.
How was that explanation? TMI, or good info?
Second thoughts can generally be amended with judicious action; injudicious actions can seldom be recovered with second thoughts.

Epithelial cells (in your mouth & vagina) are able to sequester viruses. I'm not a virologist, so I don't know the details except certain glycoproteins enable viruses to infect cells more easily. I recall reading that the woman's body will attack sperm, but that sperm have their own defenses.
