How young is "too young"?

Now this is not a thread about kiddie porn.

I am a 31 year old man. I was married to a woman for ten years that is 33. So she was a year and a half older then I am. After I left my wife, I started dating a girl that was ten years younger than I. She was 20, I was 30. In all honesty, the age difference never showed up the entire time we were dating. I never thought, "Wow she is acting like a child." And she never said, "Wow he's acting like and old fart." We eventually broke up after almost 10 months together, but to this day, I can't imagine that it would have mattered if she were 25 or even 35.

After the 21 year old, I dated another 21 year old for about a month. Now that time I really could tell that this girl is young. So it fizzled. Then I dated a 30 year old, and then even a 47 year old.

So I have run the gamut. In one year, I dated a 20 year old, and a 47 year old.

Now, I have to preface this by saying that I live in one of America's premiere college towns. There are 160,000 people in this town, and 75,000 of them are students. So literally every second person is college age: 18-24'ish give-or-take grad students. I had to look REALLY hard for the 30 year old.

But now I have the big crush on this girl that I've been psydo-seeing. We made out once, and now I've finally called her, and I'm waiting to see if she calls me back or not. Anyway, she is only 21 years old; again 10 years younger than me. I swear to God, she acts 35, but everyone is making fun of me for having a fixation on young girls.

I honestly don't see it, because I never pay any attention to age unless that person is acting it; too young or too old.

Do you guys think it is okay for me to date 20 year old girls at age 31, or am I dangerously close to becoming "THAT guy". You know, the old man in the club that just won't hang it up.

And please, be brutal. I can handle it.

There's always exceptions, but generally +/- 10 when you're over 30 is a starting point.

Yes, my guess is that you are building a reputation for being "that guy". Sure, there are exceptional 21 year olds, but you practically have a harem going. Can't you try to find one a couple of years older? Your numbers aren't really all that far off...

BTW - are you a professor? If you are, you are DEFINTELY going to be developing a reputation...

My reason for dating her is that I found her attractive, and once I began talking to her, I found her to be an incredibly interesting person. I didn't know she was so young until about a month after we started talking. She doesn't look 21 at all. She's like 5"10' tall, with long brown hair, and she is just so calm, so there are none of those tell tale giggles or chirps that most 21 year old's do.

So she is very worldly. I have a degree in film making, and she is in school for a degree in film. I lived in Germany for 5 years, and she went to high school in Germany around the same time.

I don't know. We had the best time laughing at each other, and making fun of frat boys. I picked on her taste in movies, because she thinks that Titanic is the best movie ever, and I think that Shawshank Redemption is. She said that Shawshank Redemption is a stupid bromance drama. I said, well Titanic is just a film about how rich people end up floating to safety on doors while the passionate artist sinks frozen into the water.

I don't know. We have a genuine good time. Age never comes up at all. But everyone makes fun of me. Oh well. Screw `em. They're probably just jealous.

About the girls being too young, you said there were a lot of girls up to age 24. Try to find them closer to that age, instead of around 20. They may be more rare, but hey, you won't be building up such a reputation if you hang out with girls of that age, for one.

It sounds like the girl you're with now has a lot of similarities. I dunno, **** it. Just date her. If that doesnt' work out, you should consider dating older women again.
