    Stay in Afghanistan? Or don't?

I always thought Obama's pledge to continue to fight in Afghanistan was stupid.

I just hope he realizes how stupid now that he's looking at the numbers.

We shoulda made it easier on ourselves and simply wiped out the populations and instated new American colonies. Otherwise I say why waste the money?

I am on the fence about this for one reason. We walked in and basically tore apart and leved part of a country. Morally, can you just walk out at that point?

We got in over our heads, but I am not a guy to back out on my commitments and I feel that my country should do the same.

The next argument is whether we have fulfilled our commitments I guess. Its all very subjective.

The country was already shit, it's not like it's really any different.

    And commitments to who?

They sure as hell don't care for our commitment to them.

Some people hold donkeys at a higher value then you do.

We invaded their country, that's who I feel a commitment too, the people. In my eyes it doesn't matter how much or how little you have, someone still came inside your home and caused at a minimum, a large scale disturbing the peace problem.

I don't look at the specifics, just the general big picture.

If I had it my way I would just load up all the non terrorists in the country, bus them to the next country over and bomb the place off the map. Compassionate, somewhat, but I don't like beating around the bush if I don't have to.

Afghanistan is where the focus should have always been. Is why Canada and other nations are already there.

A bit outdated, but a good take on the issue. Dyer is Canadian expert, BTW. I read his column.

Let Canada deal with it then.

We have better uses for our money.

I think that if US does not finish what it started and does not defeat Taliban and Al Qaeda as a fighting force in Afghanistan and Pakistan then either one of those countries (or both) have a high risk of falling into their hands. Then when the second attack on US is launched from there US will be forced to come back and start dealing with the problem once again only from scratch.

US certainly stirred the hornet's nest in the region by first invading and then neglecting it. Made Taliban from struggling governing entity into a powerful fighting force in the region capable of regime change. If US walks away now it will do so at a giant gamble to its own future security.

Meh. I only mention Canada when someone like Eco or DM bashes on it. I got no problem with the US, she fed and educated me for the better part of a decade.

But, I do remember how the Bush admin dissed Chretien for not going to Iraq.

Hitler and Stalin had very good methods with dealing with the populations of occupied territories.

Boy did Bush have egg on his face later though lol. That move by Chretien was one of the few things he did that I was really proud of.

Anyways, Afghanistan is a tough one. Troops are already there and are the only thing protecting the people from being taken over again by the Taliban. We threw the Taliban from power in the first place, so it's now our moral duty to finish what we started, lest we look selfish and that the TRUE intent wasn't to help the Afghan people. The majority of the population is afraid of what will happen if the troops leave. However, being a country that's been invaded and occupied by numerous other nations time after time, they've gotten a little tired of it. Understandable. I believe in a diminished presence, to what extent I'm not sure.

america's biggest problem is that we think that we can regulate everyone else according to our rules.
