    Dream House :)

Hey, i just thought it would be interesting to hear what your dream house would be
So where would you live and what sort of place e.g. house, apartment, bungalow, castle...

My Dream Home is one that I have designed. I have been working on it for years now. I haven't made up my mind... where I want to build it... but I definitely want it to be new, fresh and contemporary with a lot of character.

I designed a floor plan for a Crafstman style house, about 2400 sq ft. that I would love to build someday, maybe on Bainbridge Island. Nothing fancy but very efficient and homey.

Just a simple house with a white picket fence is enough for me. I grew up in apartments as a kid so anything a little above that is good enough.

None. Eventually I plan to live on a custom built sailboat. That's our retirement plan. Houses are good for investment, but tie you down too much to one place.

I wanna live in a high rise apartment with a living room that has glass walls and ceiling (kinda like a greenhouse) that overlooks the city skyline. An indoor gym where I can play ball and an indoor pool would be nice too.

I'll never be able to afford that though. =(

No idea whatsoever. I don't like big houses, and I'm not at home much. Main thing I want in a house is what I have right now, a gym room. Its nothing too crazy, couple mirrors, an elliptical, free weights, bar-bell, bench, and a TV and radio. I considered one of those bowflex machines but I'm an old fashioned guy.

Definitely aiming to design my own house through-and-through, but then again that's probably a dream for every archi student.

If I have time yet lacking money (building a house from scratch is seriously expensive) it would be interesting to design one that I could erect completely on my own.

And if I have money yet lack time, well, just like any other project then. But would probably make it a personal side project over several years to figure out what I want before it becomes possible.

Here's the studio/home that the architect Bart Prince made for himself.

Nice picture, Lipp... though I tend to like more traditional houses best.

The only thing I REALLY want is a wrap around porch, partially screened for bug season, with comfy chairs. And a big, eat-in kitchen/great room. And a big bathtub.

Pluses would be a small library and an apartment over a detached garage.

Ahh, that house/studio thing looks amazing! I would like to design my own house too - with a dance room with mirrors and bar, an art studio, a music/recording studio as well as all the usual rooms - plus a mini home cinema (BLU RAY) and a wardrobe like the one in Princess Diaries 2 I also wouldn't mind about an acre of land with stables
Of course, this is all dream stuff - i'm not all for the high-tech gadgets like the remotes you get to control everything - but as long as i have what i need to do what i love then things would be awesome

Ah, that sounds lovely! Hopefully that will work out for you then
    - and yeah i know what you mean - i have been living in the same house for nearly 18 years and i feel like a change - which is strange as i always pictured myself as someone who would settle somewhere and stay there but now i am probably going to keep moving from place to place - i think you would experience more of life that way

Now all i need is money

Ah, found a better example, Bart Prince tends to make statements Here's an example of an architect and a builder (only 2 guys) who designed and erected a house on their own, with only a primitive lifting structure used to help.

Was done back in the 1920's. Japanese style mixed with a hybrid construction using timber and concrete.

Definitely something I'd want to attempt. Nowadays the self-built stuff over here turns out to be hippies building out of straw bale.

Oh, and it's called the Schindler Residence, it's down in Hollywood.

Mine's one that a friend and I drew up togther. Now all we have to do is figure out where to build it. Right now he's pushing for Australia...I want Utah (he'll probably win.)

it's absolutly amazing. HUGE kitchen, amazing double-story library with a giant fireplace, and most important, an absolutly stunning Ballroom, complete with high vault ceilings, chandeliers and a Grand stair case.
