engraving on a ring for his 18th.

right me and my bf have been together for almost 20 months and we're luckily gona be together for both of our 18th's. mine's been and gona and his is at the end of august. for my 18th he got me an amazing ring that we picked out together and i want to get him one as his '18th birthday jewelry'. we've not talked about staying 'together forever' but we really love each other. uni's round the corner and we don't know what's gona happen. i want to engrave it with something special but without freaking him out like 'i love you forever'. he won't necessarily wear it on his finger but probably on a chain. what can i write without making him feel really awkward about keeping it?

umm you can't a ring by definition means FOREVER. circle = never ending. just get him a chain.

Ok, setting aside the accepted symbolism of rings and acknowledging that they can mean different things to different people, why don't you simply engrave "I love you" on it?? Or some special words that you guys share?? Depends on the guy really. I know my bf would find that kind of engraving a bit sappy, but if I wrote say, an abstract quote, he'd love it.
