Did You Know That Opossums Play Dead?

I didn't, and I killed one today thinking I was doing something humane......stupid ****ing animals

(I killed it by nailing it in the head with several rocks, note the word "several" in that I was forced to watch it squirm and writhe in the ground when the first, second and third hit didn't fully do the job)

Why are you going around killing animals? That's gross and mean.

Possums are famous for "playing dead" when threatened, but this isn't quite accurate. They are not "playing" dead at all: the possum goes into shock when particularly stressed. While not dead, it can be found lying on its side with its legs extended and is, in fact, limp and unconscious during this time, like a person who has fainted.

It takes 2 seconds to find that. Of course, killing the poor thing probably takes less time.

can u believe it? "goes in shock" ? man, i wish i can go in shock when something like that happen but then again, my threshold should be higher than a apossum lol
    keep it simple

Self-esteem isn't bragging about how great you are. It's more like quietly knowing that you're worth a lot (priceless, in fact!). It's not about thinking you're perfect — because nobody is — but knowing that you're worthy of being loved and accepted.

I think I should explain myself a little more here. Basically the animal had its mouth open in a very bizarre fashion, its legs looked stiff, they just kind of stuck out in a corpse like manner. It was twitching as well, laying on its side and the only indication it was still alive was that it poked its head up breafly as I walked by, people ride dirt bikes and mopeds through this path on an hourly basis, I'm still not 100% conviced it wasn't injured

either way, its not common knowledge , I grew up puting animals that my dog and cats had mauled out of their misery, its not something foreign too me

Yes, it is common knowledge. At least in the US. I would venture to say that is an indisputable claim. Ask just about anyone on the street.
