    All the Stan countries

People usually hear about Afghanistan or Pakistan, but there are many other Stan countries, people hardly hear about them, even though they are pretty important in history

    this is the full list:

Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan.

here is a map, their all connected with each other:

I think Sonrisa is from Uzbekistan, but I'm not sure on that. She speaks fluent Russian lol.

I spent about a month in Turkey with my ex girlfriend, and that's about as close as I'll ever get to that area of the world (I think) Of course I have friends from a few of those countries.

Its funny the way that the media paints things. I'll bet that if they were explaining that map that they'd have said, "and these are the 'stan' nations, however they all make up a larger nation called "Terroriststan"". LOL

next year i am planning a trip to that region, i wana go to turkey and then go by train to pakistan and meet my family there, apprantly there is really nice rail link between Turkey and pakistan which goes through Iran, Its very scenic, also i wana visit the other stan countries if possible, the whole area is very cultural and historical with amazing food every where. I would love to spend a lot of time in Iran, which is one of the most underrated beautiful countries

In the Middle Ages these countries lay on the coveted "silk road" (yup, the same one traveled by Marco Polo), one of the reasons for the region's cultural and racial fragmentation is due to the competition that this road bestowed on its hosts. Demise of whole empires can be thrown at it's feet.

Did you know that -stan is Persian for "place"?

Enlightening. I'm a right dunce when it comes to geography and locations and I hadn't realised Russia was so close to Pakistan, or that Turkey was as close either.

I always thought Russia was next door to the USA....DUH!!!

Is this some kind of irony or sarcasm towards someone? Or is education really that bad these days?

Russia is practically connected to the USA through the Bering Strait. There is a lot of debate as to whether Native Americans are of Russian origin. I know it's already been confirmed that most American bears actually emigrated from Russian land, I believe every single one except the black bear did.

The Russian lands to the east are only Russian as of recent history (if you count the last 500 years being recent). Before then it was a homeland to a number of asiatic tribes with as you say features resembling native americans, but vastly different to the east european slavs which make up the majority of original Russian population.
